Just a question---

Posted by Glydin on December 26, 2004, at 11:12:55

I am curious as to opinion of self treatment with psych meds - partial or total.

I'm not asking who does, doesn't or has or hasn't, just wondering thoughts on this practice.

At one time, I noted posts on this board that seemed to suggest folks were ordering for themselves.

Thanks,
Glydin

Since most psych meds are prescription or even regarded as "controlled substances" I wonder how one can obtain them, at least in the US, without a physician being involved and monitoring the situation.

However, I think that a program where a course of action is agreed upon with a therapist for self medication when indicated is a great way to handle things for non-addictive types. After all, who knows better than you what your situation is at any time and what works to resolve it?

Personally, I would never be without a few Klonopin pills even though I very seldom have to use them anymore but wouldn't feel that I had to consult anyone if I did need them. The memories of old times do persist.

~~~I discovered, via a friend (no, really, I do the face to face RX thing), ordering up for yourself is easier than I imagined. Pricey, but easy - there was a "questionaire" involved and that was "reviewed" by a doc, who then prescribed. Meds were sent as unit dosing in blister packaging, so the assumption was they were the real deal.
That theme comes close to what seems to be taboo on this board.
I, too, notice the dynamic where someone posts taking certain dosages of something and the responder then asks if it was a doctor that prescribed those doses.
You might want to review the FAQs again to get an idea of what Dr. Bob will or won't permit.
It was not my intention to promote this behavior, I merely wanted to know folks feelings on it. I was not asking for specific infomation or giving such. I was simply trying to see how folks felt about this practice. Prehaps my second post was a bit "inapproiate", it was only to highlight a point. I am aware this site is not to be used to exchange info about OBTAINING meds, importing, etc... I was not aware a general disscussion of opinions on this was not acceptable.
If this is a subject that, for general discussion purposes, is not acceptable, I am sorry.
On second thought, please disregard this question. » Glydin
Since Dr. Bob doesn't care to delete posts, normally.
Please disregard this question.
Thanks.
You're right, a general discussion of opinions is fine.
I got tired of the doc guessing wrong & charging a lot for it so have been trying things myself. I'm rather addiction prone but even benzos & amphetamines are not as good as pot & alcohol for simply getting high so I haven't abused them much (a little bit). I don't think you can even order amphetamines online anywhere without being robbed. Ordering online there is a good chance you either get ripped off or pay to much but it's cheaper than a doc with no insurance. You can also walk into Mexico for small amounts legally which is enough for experimenting (read about the laws & see a doc in Mexico for controlled meds, that's a felony with jail crime on both sides of the border)but antidepressants are sold over the counter.
If I find something that works I'll probably go get a doc's blessing & a prescription. Or if I come across a highly recommended doc that'd be good. It has more to do with trust & patience than cost really.
