How did Ativan compare with the other benzos that you've taken??

I took Ativan for the first time a few weeks ago and was very dissapointed. The highest dose I took at one time was 1mg (which I think is sort of a moderate amount), but I didn't feel a thing. Klonopin is the only other benzo that I have taken, and when you take Klonopin you know you are taking Klonopin (for better and for worse). But the Ativan may as well have been a sugar pill.

When I did take Ativan it worked just fine. I took between .5 and lmg at a time. If I remember correctly it was probably a total of 4mgs a day. Phillipa

I really, really like Ativan

Ativan, for me, is a smoother, longer-lasting benzo than xanax, and better for sleep as well. What sucks is that there's no xr version, so there is the problem of anxiety between doses and dose escalation. When I was on a benzo-stim combo, it was easier to calibrate the combo with ativan than with klonopin. That said, my fav. benzo is klonopin, followed by ativan, then librium, then xanax, then valium.

Hi,

Why is Valium your least favourite?

Ed.

not big on valium

Don't get me wrong; valium is a safe, effective medication. It just causes more drowsiness for me than many other meds do (even librium), so I like it more for sprained muscles and sleep problems than for anxiety.

Between ativan, xanax, and klonopin, ativan is by far my favorite, it didn't space me out the way the others do but knocked anxiety out like a charm.

Xanax caused more of an "I don't care" feeling, sort of that aloof, out of it feeling that alcohol can cause, along with being too artificially calm.

Ativan is much nicer, just relieving anxiety, without any detachment or aritficial feelings.

But, like I detailed some months ago, getting the dosage right can be tricky, and doctors don't understand it very well.

Also, it seems that the name brand is vastly preferable to the generic.
