Hi,
i currently take clonazepam 2-4mg daily to cope with anxiety and restlessness. Is there a more efficient benzo for handling this? Clonazepam works great normally, but i feel i could use something that lifts my mood a little.
Thanks,
Mattias

Hi Matt,
You could try alprazolam (Xanax- Xanor and Alprox in Finland). Some people find alprazolam mood-elevating.

Hi,
Thank you pretty_paints for your reply, also thank you Ed for the benzo tip ;)
I just talked to a psychdoc on call, she will prescribe me alprazolam tomorrow morning and she also told me to decrease sertraline dosage to 100mg as we suspected it to co-producing this horrible anxiety. Has anyone heard of it? Experiencing it? Zoloft causing severy anxiety at high dose.

BTW, Ed, try install the light edition of icq at www.icq.com it might work better, what os do you run?

I agree with above posters:
Augmenting my AD combo with alprazolam every other day definitely increases antidepressant action.
In fact, studies show that alprazolam has significant antidepressant effects besides reducing anxiety.
No other benzo is known to accomplish this.

Xanax is a good short-term mood-elevator...if you want to take a benzo long term, I'd recommend xanax xr or clonazepam. I read an abstract of a small study that found that 3mgs of Klonopin+AD did way more for depression than just the AD, and was particularly good for subjects labelled "treatment resistant". It was a small study though, and few shrinks I know will Rx 3mgs klonopin right off...sorry about going off topic: xanax should work nicely for you. I personally found Ativan to be about as effective.

in australia the good onld dr think xanax is way too strong and i think 99% prescribe good old diazepam made you have to take at least 20mg to sdow some effect but oh no my presciption is for 5mg og valium.i think aus doctors are too conservative for their own good.they think they are helping patient but they are wasting everyones time.

Diazepam is by far the most widely prescribed benzo in the UK. My pdoc insists on giving me 2mg tablets despite the fact that he knows I need 15mg doses! He still writes a prescription for 2mg three times a day!
