Hey fellow ADHD'ers...
Anyone have comorbid problems with anxiety & on a stimulant for your ADHD?
If so, which have you found to be most "mild" in regards to anxiety? As far as stims I've tried for ADHD, I've been on Adderall & Ritalin, the latter being horrible w/anxiety.
Anyone?
Thanks!
L.

Its interesting how everyone says that Ritalin makes anxiety worse. Also interesting is how many folk say dextroamphetamine salts are the least anxiogenic.
Its a real shame that Adderral is not available in my part of the world.
Anyhow, to answer your question....
the beta blockers are usually prescribed for co-morbid anxiety amongst other things; metoprolol has gained much popularity for this indication, also pindolol and propranolol are used. So too is Nadolol.
Everytime I take ritalin I am amazed at how it works. Except for a mild hand tremor I feel totally calm, rational, and anxeity free.

All psychostim's will increase your anxiety to some extent -- or at least make you feel somewhat anxious. I have tried concerta and adderall, both of which I have found to be very beneficial for my adhd symptoms. I have tried zoloft and effexor for depression/ADHD - neither of which were effective for me. I am currently taking Xanax XR 3mg 2x daily with the Adderall, it's a perfect mix thus far. Though if you can avoid benzos I would recommend it.. they're a b*itch if you forget to refill you rx -- just learned that one the hard way ... Good luck!

From personal experience, do people find Desoxyn less likely to aggravate anxiety than Dexedrine?

I take Strattera along with Lexapro. The Strattera does make me calmer. But I have never tried a stimulant so I can't compare.

> I take Desoxyn. It was sugested my my Doctor. I find it not at all "speedy" like Ritalin and or Aderall. With those meds I was always on the go whether I wanted to or not. They did work as far as an ADD Rx but I was always troubled with the side-effects of anxiety. Plus when those meds were done working they dropped you off fast and that would promote a side of irritability. Desoxyn doesn't artificially promote ambition/motivation, that part is up to you. What it does is get that part of your brain stimulated that us ADDers need. I find it amazingly smooth plus without a doubt, in my opinion, works better than anything on the market. To me if there was ever a medication specifically designed for ADD, that actually worked, this would be the medication.

> I've been prescribed both IR/XR versions of Ritalin and Adderall. They work but produce too much anxiety. I've been on Desoxyn for about 2 months (15-20 mg per day is all I need). Cost for me is $10 co-pay. I don't tell anyone about what meds I take.

>Thanks for your reply Jep,
I found Methphenidate Anxiogenic too, althought this faded over time and as the dosage increased, It produced a some what zombieish effect.
Do you take 10mgs BID. or 10 then 5 later in the day? I would think someone would have to know their Psydoc well, and be seeing them for a while for this med to be given? I think I would find It difficult to keep this a secret from anyone, if I was scripted this;)
I wonder if you are going for a dosage increase, The highest dose of Desoxyn I have heard is from a Narcoleptic person I know of, who is on 80mgs daily! 16 pills. 4xqid, althought he has taken this med for 45 years.Cheers
