Computer use, fatigue, and stimulants

Posted by Dave001 on November 27, 2004, at 21:12:54

I find that on days that I don't use the computer (which are few, now) that I feel much better, more energetic, and "require" a substantially smaller amount of Dexedrine. It is almost as if staring at the computer causes my brain to "use up" the stimulant much faster. I especially find that if I hop on the computer as the first thing for the day, it tends to drain me for the rest of the day.

Does anyone else have any similar experiences?

This is probably a very abstract connection, but computer monitors create high outputs of positive ions. Negative ion generators are sold and used for their antidepressant potential. High output negative ion generators have been tested in double blind trials for their antidepressant potential.

Some studies suggest that high levels of positive ions decrease the production of the catecholamines.

That's really interesting...you can get them at any pharmacy? What aisle would they be in? (sorry, that's probably a stupid question, I'm just really intrigued).

Something I would DEFINITELY like to look into.

I got one at a health food store. It's worth doing a little research, ie. any search engine do a depression + "negative ions"

There are some double blind studies done on it.

Here's one for use with SAD. But it has been tested in other disorders as well.

I was thinking more along the lines of the increased mental energy required as a result of the intense focus.

i too feel exhausted at the end of the day. i work on a pc all day. and when i get home, i do the same. it is the nature of my business.

i recently started taking a 6 ginseng blend. it is considered a revitalizing tonic rather than a stimulant. i get it at iherb.com.

i also take 2-3 energy drinks simular to red bull, except i drink the arizona low carb EXTREME energy drink. it has a whole but of stimulants in it in addition to caffeine. three is pretty much the responsible limit to stop at.

i was tempted to start taking Rx diet pills again, still debating it.

I think computers/cellphone use is getting way out of control, it is as if we all follow the fad with the cellphones and too many abuse and use them in unappropriate situations. It is sad that most cannot figure anything out without having to go online and being totally dependent on their computers. With so many millions and millions of people using so many digital devices i.e. cellphones/pda's/internet/digcameras/ etc etc its no wonder we are all feeling tired, stressed and fatigued.

Sorry to interrupt, but I'd like to redirect follow-ups regarding negative ion generators to Psycho-Babble Alternative. Here's a link:
