Klonopin and emotions--anyone?

Posted by Laree on November 23, 2004, at 16:32:18

Anyone here who's taken/taking Klonopin find it has made them extremely emotional? I think I have been crying a lot more frequently recently and although there are a lot of other factors (stress, severe anxiety, panic attacks, intense family discord...) that could possibly be contributing to this, I feel it may be due in part, at least, to the Klon. and/or exacerbated by it, and was wondering if anyone has had similar experience(s).
Other than that possible s/e, it has been a fantastic med for my severe anxiety/panic problems.
Thanks,
L.

Yesterday and today I was extremely emotional, but I have lots of the same factors in my life as you do. I think the meds (which by the way I've been very happy with the effects of Klonopin too for my GAD) help to a certain point and those emotions need to take place during the appropriate situations. In my case, I don't think the Klonopin has made it worse. See how you feel in a few days when (hopefully) life has settled down a bit.

Check out, this could be a sign of depression....Klonopin/Rivotril is the only benzo that always gives me depression apart from all other benzos, and I'm not alone in this...a lot of people have had this experience with the pro- depressive clonazepam.

Really does go to show the the old Babble saying YMMV does apply in mental treatment, because i have found Klonopin (rivotril) to have an anti-depressant effect on me, although a very very modest one.

But i think anything that was going to give me stability for the serious issues i was/am having was going to have anti-depressant qualities.

I think if anyone finds themselves getting depressed on klonopin i would suggest they try 5-HTP as an add on before going fown the SSRI route.

Infact personally if the 5-HTP didn't do the trick i would ask for a stimulant before adding an SSRI also.
