2 months Back On Zoloft

Posted by Buckeye Fan on November 18, 2004, at 15:26:45

Hi to all,
You might remember that I tried going off AD
medicine this past summer...and was successful for 3 months.
The company I worked for closed...my unemployment has run out...and I have a mortgage,
family, bills....and I am not sure if 50mg's of Zoloft is enough. I feel better than I did 2 months ago...but now that it is getting dark at 5:00 here in Ohio! I am really feeling like a failure and depressed.
No medical Insurance..so visits to my MD are almost non-existant.
I can still get my presriptions written ( Zoloft and Xanax)....but they cost money, which is running out.
Yet here I sit...seemingly unable to get motivated, or find the right Job...or something!!!!! I dont know...what is wrong with me??????? Should I increase the dose???

Suggestions please.....sinking fast~
Thanks inadvance

BF

Hi Buckeye Fan,
Had to respond since it is the big game week. Anyway, I know there are mental health clinics around where you can find cheaper/free meds depending on your situation. Try NAMI (nat'l alliance for the mentally ill) of Ohio http://www.namiohio.org - they might be able to refer you to someone. Or else call ODMH (ohio dept of mental health) http://www.mh.state.oh.us/ - just find a number and call them. Its their job to help you. Also, the ADAMH (alcohol, drug and mental helath) board of Franklin county http://www.adamhfranklin.org/ - they have resources too. Or just put in Google Columbus/Central Ohio Mental Health Clinics. Call people and explain to them your problem. If all else fails, take yourself to the hospital - you might get stuck there for a couple of days but they have to help you. I would try the other resources first though. Our ODMH director is the head of the presidents commision on mental health - he's a good guy. They have good people there - you just have to give it some work to get through the red tape to reach someone who can and will help.
Another thing - I hated Zoloft - generic Prozac is cheap and works for me. But everyone is different
Good Luck!! Go Bucks!

Thank you Midwestgirl.
I will take tour advice and look into the freeclinic info. I cannto bring myself to go to a hospital and be labeled yet. I have very little confidence in the mental health system.
But you gave me some good ideas of where to go for help..thanks again.
My friend is on Prozac and swears by it...why did YOU hate Zoloft, just out of curiousity??

BuckeyeFan,
First - how about that game! We won!!

Anyway - For me, Zoloft made me feel like I was high on pot. I hate pot. I was drowsy, sluggish, out of focus, I just felt weird. I slept too long and was groggy when I tried to wake up. I hate feeling so out of it that I can't even carry on a normal conversation - that wht that stuff did to me. I can't deal with feeling like that. My little sis took it too and she ended up sleeping for days at a time. I cannot feel out of control like Zoloft mad me feel.

Prozac doesnt do that to me. I don't know if it helps so much - all I take it for is to help my eating disorder - you can't hack on it for some reason. My real drug is Trileptal - an anti-seizure drug that helps with mood disorders.

Good luck - if you need any help contacting people or finding people to contact, let me know. I will call them for you if you want and ask about reduced med prices and things like that and then write you back about what I've found. I dont mind at all. It actually would help me and my problems if I could help someone else.
