Hi
I am finally getting off Prozac. I have been on it for 12 years! I have not found many posts of others who have been consistently on it for any longer than like 5 yrs or so.I am still going to be on a theraputic dose of Wellbutrin and Topamax, however my Dr(and I)think Prozac is causing more bad than good at this point.
I am weaning off and I am hoping to get some feedback from others experiences of getting off after a long period of time. Thanks! :-)

I took it for many years, had prozac poop-out, tried diferrent augmentations and tried other SSRI's. Got fed up, went off all meds on my own. Hit rock bottom after a year without meds, took prozac again and surprizingly it worked like the very first time I took it again. Now I've been on it for 3 years again, having prozac poop out again. Dr. wants me to try augmenting with Buspar.

I would get more deeply depressed and have EXTREME anxiety. Each time I went off it these symptoms were worse than the previous time. I have finally proved it to myself that I cannot function without prozac. I did not have any physical withdrawal. Hope I answered your question.

going off prozac takes a lot of perseverence, support and gentleness. i was on prozac for 10 years and decided i had had enough, and it didn't seem effective anymore. when i decided to stop taking it, i slowly tapered down until i was only on 10mg a day. during this time, i sought out an acupuncturist who supported me and my body through this process. i also received massage and other forms of bodywork to help relax. practicing yoga and meditation has also been helpful. after finally getting off and living life without it, i have noticed my mind to be much clearer and more receptive. i still struggle with depression, but i prefer feeling to numbness. i did have some physical side effects. i mainly had a hard time breathing.
