Did anyone found Buspar (buspirone) to be pro-social in its effects? Is it good for social-anxiety at all ?

My psychologist just prescribed me Buspar to augment my prozac because I am having social anxiety. I too would like to know. I am becoming agoraphobic and it is driving my husban crazy.
I hope people who have used this drug respond because I would like to know too.

I didn't have much luck with Buspar for my social anxiety disorder. I was just as shy and self concious. It helped a little with generalized anxiety disorder.

Buspar is good for nothing from my personal experience. It did nothing for my anxiety or depression. Klonopin works wonders on social anxiety for me. (.5 mg x 2).

>Buspar did nothing for me accept make me feel my brain was tied in a knot. I only took it for a week and stopped. I have found Effexor and Klonopin 1mg 2x/day works great for social anxiety.

I recently tried the Buspar in conjunction with prozac and it made me CRAZY. Stopped taking it, doing better now. It was scary!

I find it pro-social. I replaced a benzo with 30mgs buspar daily, and it seems to work quite well...it even seems to boost the antidepressants I'm
taking.

What other AD are you taking? Have you had any side effects with the buspar?
I have heard that buspar works better in conjunction with another AD, but I don't know if that means all AD's or just SSRIs.

I take 60mgs Cymbalta and 150mgs Tofranil. I also take 60mgs of Adderall and 20mgs of abilify. Buspar really surprised me; I thought it was going to be a dismal failure, but after a week or so, it worked quite well...and it seems as though the ADs and the BuSpar boost each other; not only am I signifcantly less anxious, I'm also happier in general.

I was taking Klonopin, 4mg+/- daily and the occasional xanax booster (1-2mg). I did a gradual, 3 week outpatient taper my MD set up. It worked quite well...a few minor headaches here and there (advil fixed it), and I was done.

3 weeks--my that sounds quick for 4mgs of Klono
mayb you can give me hope for my 2 year Clonazepam use 2-4mgs

I'd been on Klonopin just about 2 years. Xanax about the same, but my xanax use was sporadic, so it didn't require a taper.

I tried Buspar about 3 years ago, it did nothing for depression, may have helped with generalized anxiety for a short time, not help with social anxiety. I did sleep better for a few months.....overall pretty worthless

I noticed that a few of you wanted to know what I experienced, I previously wrote extreme paranoia, which is true, but I was embarassed to elaborate.
You see, it made me feel like people were in the room with me who had done bad things to me, but I could not see them. I felt their "presence." It happened late at night, my husband was already asleep. I became so frightened I grabbed my pillow and a blanket and went into the closet to sleep.
I awoke when I felt the closet door hit my foot. It was my husband, he noticed I was not in bed and searched the house until he found me. He was upset. I was embarassed and did not know how to explain it to him. He said "No more Buspar." and I agreed.

Thanks so much for sharing and please do not be embarrassed. Buspar was originally created as a neuroleptic (ie for schizophrenia, psychosis etc) but it never panned out as that and was instead approved for anxiety. Since AD's can actually make some people more depressed, I would not be surprised if something similar to an anti-psychotic could have a reverse result as well. Its not your fault. You just had a very bad reaction to the drug.
