Increased appetite from Lamictal?

Posted by BJM on November 17, 2004, at 16:03:38

Anyone notice that their appetite increased since starting on Lamictal? I know they say that it is weight neutral but my appetite has definetly changed since being on it. And it is mostly at night. Not hunger. Just a constant picking. Even in the middle of the night.

I did at doses above 100mg. I had a huge craving for sweets, and I never usually eat sweets. At 100mg it was weight neutral. At 150mg I gained 8 pounds.

Thanks. That really helps. I'm not on a very high dose but I am extremely med sensitive. Each time I went higher on the Lamictal the appetite thing got worse. The doc is having me lower it to see if it will help but I was really hoping to be able to stick with it for the AD effects. Don't want to lose that part of it. Maybe being med sensitive I'll still get the benefits on the lower dose. I'm crossing my fingers.

oh that's fantastic. (intense sarcasm)...i was really looking forward to this lamictal finally solving my BPII depression which carried bad social anxiety with it....had high hopes. Wasn't aware of the apetite-increase potential. How common is this with Lamictal? I have a problem as it is keeping my weight in check, as I am on Adderall throughout the day, workout twice a day, and am 6'6", so I don't eat enough throughout the day, and when the adderall begins to finally wear off by bedtime, and all my workout routines add up, i cant stop myself from raiding the kitchen bigtime. It's like I have to keep working out hardcore just to keep my weight steady, cuz of all the junk i eat before bed! ahhhh

>>> I am exactly the same way! I take 100 mg. of Lamictal twice a day. I am very motivated to work out because of the innumerable benefits, but I have the same evening cravings. I figure since I worked out, I can eat whatever I want.
And I usually eat a lot of carbs. I do tend to think of it as a psychological issue rather than a medication one.

When I started Lamictal I lost 25 lbs because it really reduced my appetite. I would eat hardly anything during the day, but then at night after taking Seroquel, I would start snacking on everything and waking up every few hours for little snacks. I dont know if the Seroquel is responsible for this, but I definitely didn't start all the little night snacks until Lamictal.
