I am having problems with this too. Lithium helps in many ways, but I too feel stupid on it.
I find coffee helps, but coffee can lower lithium blood levels.
I found that lithium and ritalin worked well together. And, while on the lithium, I wound't get the notorious ritalin crash at the end of the day.
I'm sure others might have more advanced suggestions though.

> bpsI am sooo familiar with that problem! If you aren't already doing so, taking all of your dose at bedtime will help somewhat. Also, if you just started taking lithium recently, some of the cog sfx do fade with time (not all unfortunately). If your dose is fairly high... you might want to talk to your doc about backing it down some. Lower doses work well for depression, the higher ones never seemed to obtain much significant improvement for me.. 450-600mg pretty much was the top of the AD response I ever got from it. As far as add ons go.... you might consider a little Keppra. I definitely got an attentiveness boost from it, but unfortunately it made me pretty grouchy.

How much are you on ... lowering my dose to 450 and adding alittle wellbutrin helped me. But in some ways lithium helps my concentration because it filters out all those *junk* thoughts (hypomania racing useless worries and ideas). Hope this helped.

Thanx for the posts,
I'm on 900 mg of slow-release lithium.. I'm going to try and take as much as possible at night.. but i worry kuz i find lithium activating for me... but im currently going to try ketoconazole with it, i've read a theory which states that hypercortisolemia occurs often in bipolars and this leads to cognitive problems.. not sure what this has to do with lithium brain fog, but mabye a general improvement in my cognition will make the lithium brain fog seem less severe
