Hi, I have OCD, GAD, and depression all rolled into one (great HuH). Well I have been having a terrible time dealing with the uncontrollable, unwanted thoughts created by the OCD.
I just posted about this problem in the post above this one.
But I have discovered something that has helped some by mere accident. My pdoc. which is good, has me on 60mg of Lexapro, 4mg of Klonopin, and 30mg of Remeron for the OCD, anxiety, and GAD. Well all of this helps fine with the physical aspects of my anxiety and gives me a good nights sleep. But nothing has helped with my thoughts (and I have tried everything).
Well I also see a neurologist for nerve damage caused by a benign tumor in my spine. Well he stared me on the medication Trileptal for the nerve damage and pain. At low dose it did nothing but as he increased the dose it helped the neuropathy a little.
But the Trileptal as the dose rose I noticed began to help with the OCD thoughts. They would kind of stop after I took the med and I could actually think clearly for a while. But when the med. wore off the thoughts begin to gradually come back.
Well I found out that Trileptal is also used as a mood stabilizer and for other psychopharmacutical treatments.
My question is I take 1,800mg (600mg 3x a day). I have read that the max. dose is 2,400mg.
At 1,800mg the Trileptal only helps a little. I was wondering if I could increase it. Or could an additional moodstabilizer be added to help.
I just saw my pdoc about two weeks ago. If I want to ask a question about medication or anything like that I have to make an appointment and see him and that is $115.00.
I was wondering if I could raise the Trileptal a little to see if it would improve my OCD thoughts further. But I don't know what to do?
Any advice, comments, our thought would be appreciated.
Sorry for such a long post,
BRC

Hey,
Raise the trileptal (oxcarbazepine).. its a very benign medication with little side-effects... in other words, its most likely not going to hurt you.. try it out, my pdoc likes it alot kuz its a mood stabilizer with little adverse effects... hope it works for yeah

Increasing the Trileptal to 2400mg is probably the best idea since you obviously tolerate a hefty dose of the med. One other thing to look into is possibly adding Neurontin. It's helpful for anxiety and it is also used for neuropathic pain. It's an easy add because your liver doesn't get rid of it and it won't affect the blood levels of the other meds.
This is the end of the thread.
