problems with klonopin

Posted by migration on November 7, 2004, at 21:50:09

I'm taking about .75mg of Klonopin (6 days now) and 45mg of Nardil (a few weeks).

I can't remember anything! Everytime I start talking to a friend they are like, "you've already told me this twice today." I have just about no recollection of previous conversations. I can forget I just saw someone a few minutes after I saw them. Is there any remedy for this? I had a bad memory due to chronic stress/anxiety before taking klonopin, but it wasn't as severe.

Also the klonopin slows down my motor skills (I walk slow, slur my speech, not alert) and my eyes only open half way. I can't drink Caffeine because it raises my blood pressure. I'm unable to focus on words when I'm reading a book, which is causing alot of problem in my classes (I'm a college student). It's like my eyes bounce around the page. I've had to postpone 3 tests since I feel like I have a learning disability now. Sometimes I get double vision.

I also get mild brain shocks (especially when I close my eyes) like you get from withdrawal. (I remember that feeling when I tapered off Paxil and Effexor)

Are these temporary side effects?

Im exactly on the same combo and same dose.
When did your memory problem started?
I usually have had this problem for many time even before this combo.

How are you feeling bro? Are you happy with this combo??

What about adding Provigil to this combo to increase your alertness ??

I´ve been thinking on this combo recently or maybe increasing Nardil

Good luck !

The memory problem existed before I started medication, but the Klonopin has made it alot worse. I've only been on it 6 days.

I've been on 30mg-45mg Nardil for almost a month and though my social anxiety isn't gone, it is decreasing. I am getting more involved in social activites which usually I wouldn't consider doing due to fear (but I am normally a social person). I am just now increasing my Nardil dose to 60mg. I also do mindfulness meditation 15-30 a day which definitely helps to decrease my anxiety.

I'm not sure if the klonopin is helping or not. Perhaps I should increase to 1mg; I just don't want to be more zombie like than I already am. I don't like have half open eyes and slurred speech. It's a bit embarassing.

I don't know anything about Provigil. I'll have to look into it. I am a little leary about taking 3 prescriptions so I wanted to see if I could find a natural drug that would help.

Thanks for your comments :)

Well, some studies suggest that tolerance to the cognitve side effects of the benzos develops over time. I tried Clonazepam for a few days and it just SLOWED me down. I had huge concentration problems, memory loss....

I am going to ask my doctor tomorrow to rx Lyrica and see if it helps social anxiety.

Hi:
I've been on Klonopin for about 17 months now, and for the first 2 weeks I felt drowsy and slow, in thought, mood, everything. I adjusted after that.
Short term memory was a big problem with anxiety and I think Klon. does make it a bit worse. I just had a discussion with my doctor about this very issue. He maintains that the anxiety is the major cause of the memory problems, even if you are not feeling the anxiety very much, due to the drugs. The residual effect of being stressed/anxious continually, for a long time, has a big impact on cognitive functioning, including memory.
You may find things improve after a while on your meds.
Another thing, try splitting your Klon. dose into two doses. I take half at lunch time and half at dinner time. It really helped.
Good luck!
Jas
BTW, I get tongue-tied, slurred speech, when I get hyper-anxious again and an extra .25mg of Klon. takes it away!!! This symptom maybe from anxiety. Does it happen some time after your dose of Klon.?

I'm not a doctor, but I would try lowering the dose and seeing how that works. Also...Get off of it 'if you can' sooner rather than later. I've used benzo's now for an almost uninterrupted 13 years (1.5mg xanax or 1mg klonopin, curretnly .5mgklonopin). I would suggest to anyone to try and avoid this as I have large gaps in my memory I believe due at least in part to the benzo's.

I posted this on another anxiety thread. I am a trial lawyer, and for obvious reasons, my mind has to be alert for hours on end. I have anxiety and panic attacks, and have found that on .5 of Ativan [Lorazepam], even during a court day, I am calmer, but mentally sharp.

I just finished a trial where, following a lunch break, I was feeling panic coming on and took an Ativan. Later, the judge complimented on how together and professional my presentation was. So, I'm a big fan of Ativan for anxiety.

When I take Xanax [.25], I'm asleep pretty soon, which my clients would not appreciate, I'm sure.

This is the end of the thread.
