Hello all,
I am under the impression that when some take a combination of Lexapro (or any SSRI) and Wellbutrin...that is very much like taking and SNRI? Is this this case? I have been on Lex and especially WB for a long time and I don't think they are working as well as they were...so i was thinkiing of changing to Effexor or Cymbalta which are both SNRI's. Is this good reason....logical or is there a part of the chemistry that I am not considering? Thanks,

WB is also a dopamine re-uptake inhibitor, although it seems to be stronger in its noradrenergic effects. So, it would be somewhat similar to an NRI I would imagine, although probably more anxiety provoking. In regards to Cymbalta or Effexor, I'd go with Cymbalta. It seems cleaner than Effexor and is easier in regards to dosing, ie longer half-life. Also, I would imagine that if you took an NRI along with WB, it would make the WB more dopaminergic.
Best wishes,
Justin

I agree with Justin. Cymbalta is much cleaner and doesn't have as many unreported yet substantiated negative side effects. I would stay clear of my GP though. Talk to a neurologists. They've got a better grasp of what's going on in the synaptic soup of neuro-transmitters and the drugs that stir them.
