I am better now. No adderall, just Provigil

Posted by Eljakeo25 on October 31, 2004, at 16:58:55

After having that intermittent explosive episode and the consequenced resulting from it (and very understanding police who actually trusted me and did not have to commit me), I ran out of Adderall and Provigil. I was back to my amotivation and lack of concentration. I was lazy and just wanted to be in bed, but even that was uncomfortable as I was so restless. (I had an awesome vivid dream though, it seems like when I feel down, I have awesome dreams, and when I feel better, I have negative dreams) Anyways, I am back on campus, and was finally able to get my refill of $$$Provigil$$$ from the pharmacy. I ran out of adderall as again I was needing more and more of it throughout the day to get it's effect, it's amphetamine...duh...But I was again very unmotivated to study on campus and I took 600 mg of Provigil and not I am motivated like the adderall (otherwise I would not be writing this), I can concentrate, and no NO NO impulsivity around my peers. Mabe I should just not be on the adderall at all anymore, athough it controls some aspect of impulsivity, it can trigger angerness in higher doses. So lets see how well I do with out it, as long as there is another medication effective to take it's place. Thanks for bearing with me everyone. I did have a very good 2 weeks before the 10 minute rage, and then very good again..

It's great to hear you're doing well on the Provigil. Remember to post and keep everyone updated on how it works over the long-term, I am especially interested to see how it treats you long-term in regard to tolerance and effects. If you could though, what are the psychological/subjective differences between the way Provigil vs. Adderall feel?

Thanks,
Justin

Amphetamines can cause aggression, esp. at high doses. Maybe you'll be better off without the Adderall. Hope you got my post about Trileptal, you didn't reply so I wasn't sure.

I will be talking with my doctor today about adjuncting a "big" mood stabilizer to help control my impulsivity, however, he feels that I do not have these outbursts very often, which I agree, thus Klonopin and the small dose of Risperdal is as effective as it gets for keeping my impulsivity under control. Since I only have a major episode once every 6 months. As a follow up to the provigil, at 100mg or 200mg it does not do anything for me. At 600mg I have the motivation feeling the adderall gives me, brighter mood, concentration increases, However it still does not give that "kick in the butt" deep analytical focusing that the major stimulants do. (I only tried Adderall). I did not feel as restless or frustratated on a task with Provigil as if I did not have anything. Without anything, I am lazy in my bed, restless, uncomfortable, not wanting to do anything, and frustrated. The Provigil gets me out the door and into my books, the adderall gets me deeper into my books and allows me to create a "flight" of realistic goals for me to accomplish (not grandiose, I am not manic). ANd I often finish those goals on the medication with a sense of accomplishment.

Update:

My problem was that I was going through the adderall tablets too fast. Not that I was craving them or dependent, but, I just wanted to push myself harder, and when I felt it wear off, I wanted another typical 15mg dose. Being honost with my doctor, he believes the adderall at the right dosage still helps to alievate impulsive ideation. (The cops let me take my adderall and Klonopin, when the "captured" me so it would help me calm down. And the officer said "I have never seen a change in someones behavior in 5 minutes before, threatening suicide, to being a bright, motivated, and friendly young man" (again the suicide comments to people were cries for attention during the impulsive outburst, I actually don't even think about suicide nor I want to die, but they get peoples attention and thats what impulse disorders do.) So the pdoc is going to put me on 20mg of Adderall XR BID (take one in the morning and one in the afternoon) and since it is controlled release, it lasts longer in the system, and I won't be as tempted to treat them like candy, but more like my Cymbalta capsules. If I cannot still control my adderall intake (again not because of addiction, but more for a desprate relief of symptoms + pushing myself to be my very best at the same time), I will have to quit adderall for awhile because I do not want to become addicted, and the way I was using it, athough not compulsively, was heading in that direction. So the XR will help in that sense, it helped before and I will bring two adderalls with me and make sure I leave the bottle at home and remembering that the Provigil is working too.. Thanks so much for listening to my psychobabble =)

Did you ever mix the Provigil with the Adderall? Just curious to see what the effects would be like. Maybe by taking Provigil in the morning along with Adderall IR tablets through the day would mitigate that 'loss of effect until next dose' effect.
