Hello. I have tried at times both Xanax and Klonopin for Social Anxiety. Both can calm me down. But I experience that Xanax is more pro-social than Klonopin. I mean the Klonopin helps the anxiety but at the same time makes me less interested in socializing, while Xanax is more activating.
With Xanax I am both calmed down and energized to interact with others. It's like Klonopin has an overall depressive effect, while Xanax is more specific in its action.
Have you experienced the same with these two?!
Thanks,
Kristel.

Xanax is a triazolobenzodiazepine, Klonopin and most benzodizepines are not. This is likely why most people would agree with you on the pro-social effects. One interesting thing is that all triazolobenzodizapines have short half lives...
Now, if there were a long-acting one, that would be cool. Xanax XR doesnt count by the way!

But there is Lyrica (pregabalin) coming on the market soon, and it supposedly helps with anxiety (social) a lot and is not addictive.

I might get 3mg Xanax XR tablets next monday from my doctor (to take on morning). Do you mean that it lasts for only short time? I might add 0.5mg XR on afternoon to keep conctant plasma concentrations. Any ideas?!

Are you from Europe?
How much does Lyrica cost per month?
Is it really that good for social-anxiety?
I mean, compared to alcohol - how good it is? Does it make you pro-social? Any side-effects?Take care,
Brad

Do you think that say 300mg /day of Lyrica would be effective? equivalent to 2mg Klonopin or 3-4mg Xanax?!
And as I understand, Lyrica works within an hour?!

Xanax XR 2mg isnt equivalent to a 2mg Xanax basically, its weaker. It is released in pulsed doses , when it breaks down. It isn't an actual benzo that is a long half life. Its just the pills technology that allows it to work that way, and it isnt even as effective as a normal xanax.

It is difficult to make an absolute comparison to Klonopin or Xanax, though Lyrica is slightly similar to a benzo, but not really. It feels much different, hard to explain, but my head feels like its getting a headache or like its compressed, but then i feel great, happy and pro social. Its just a very strange medicine.
I use 600mg daily. I can't say for sure what will be effective for anyone else. I felt very drunk and messed up when i first used it. Sometimes i still feel that way! woo!

Defintely can be used as needed! Kicks in about 1 hour from taking it, and it just gets better and better from there. It lasts A LONG TIME, far longer than a benzo. One dose lasts me all day, from the morning.
I find 600mg in the morning all at once or more awesome. Anything less (except when i first started) wasn't as cool for me. I am sure its different for everyone though.
Lyrica feels like GHB or XTC sometimes.

Still wondering, do you feel that Lyrica impairs you cognitively? memory problems, concentration difficulties? slows you intellectually?
Thanks.
Kristel.

No intellectual slowdown noticed, nope, not like a benzo. No memeory impairment.

Boy this looks REALLY like a miracle drug. I wanna try it NOW! I will see my doctor on Monday.
I tried some Xanax today but it also causes concentration problems and it makes me depressed. I already have some sort of mild depression and it doesn't take a benzo much to aggravate it.
Not sure if it would help to take Lexapro / Edronax (the europian Strattera) combo along with Xanax XR to prevent the concentration/depression side effects. Any thoughts maybe?!
It might be that tolerance to Klonopin/Xanax's memeory and cognitive problems develop over time. I have read that some place. Any ideas?
I might be just the next person on the board to post about the WONDERFUL Lyrica:)
But still wondering what dose of Klonopin/Xanax you been trying in the past?! And is you social anxiety charactarized by physical symptoms?!
I have no whatsoever physical symptoms. It's just that I am SOO inhibited around people. I just can't think of anything to say at all. And people on the bus, street, school or just about any place stress me out! The very simple things people take for granted are just HUGELY difficult to me.
How would you descripe your social anxiety if you don't minf me asking?!
Thanks for all of your replies so far :)

You're not kidding about pregabalin. I am going to attempt to get my doctor to import some from Europe so I can trial it. And I won't be the first, other studies have indicated positive outcomes for social anxiety.
I tried Cymbalta, which basically eliminates depression, but also eliminates what I would call spark. Now I'm using selegiline+DLPA which is superior to Cymbalta in that regard. However, pregabalin, which I believe was invented 16 years ago, and is only now being released in some markets, could be the answer for my social anxiety.

To use the highest dose....all at once. Start out slow, however..
I use 600mg in the morning, it lasts all day.
Lower doses just dont work.
BTW Lyrica is approved int he USA, its just not on the market yet. If you ask your doctor for it, just have him write a prescription and use an online pharmacy in the UK.
