I have been doing really great the past couple of months. However the past couple of days I have been having some bad anxiety (Tense, Uneasy, eyes are focusing weird) and a little depression. This stuff is just so uncomfortable and I was doing so well.
I was on 150 MG's of EffexorXR and now I am down to 37.5 MG's. My doc put me on Neurontin so that I could lower my dose of effexor. I have worked my way up to 600MG's in the Morning and 600MG's at night of the Neurontin and I take the Effexor in the mornin.
IS this to much Neurontin or should I go up again to relieve the anxiety. I am also getting my period soon so maybe that is whats wrong with me. Any input would help!!!! THANKS---ROBZ!

Has your pdoc talked to you about spacing out your Neurontin? Many people take it 3x/day b/c it moves through your system so fast. So you may not need to up it if you, for example, take 400 mg when you wake up, late afternoon, and at bed. I do 300 AM, 600 PM and 300 at bedtime (hey, that adds up to 1200 too!) I must say that Neurontin seems to be a sort of subtle med and sometimes it isn't clear to me if it is working or not.

Hi! Neurontin really isn't a good drug. The drug's owner (I forget the company's name..maybe Parke-Davis) just settled a lawsuit for pushing Neurontin for "off-label" uses. They also did rigged studies and sat on negative data. Personally, it did nothing for me. I'd ask your doc to up your effexor or try a different AD and give you a REAL anti-anxiety med...if not a benzo, maybe atarax or something.

Atarax sucks. If you want something for the anxiety, go with a benzodiazepine like Valium, Klonopin, or Xanax.
In addition, Neurontin is not 'a bad drug'. Many people find it quite useful as it may have mood stabilizing and anti-anxiety components to its subjective effects. That said, I didn't find it too beneficial, although I did require less xanax to combat my anxiety at doses at or above 1200mg/day.
Also, there is no true upper limit to Neurontin dosages. The toxicity is fairly low, although cognitive problems may rear their head like dizziness, forgetfulness, stuff like that. If you're worried whether or not you're taking too much, don't worry you probably are not if no adverse effects have appeared yet. Many people have taken 2400-4800mg / day, so I'd say you're fairly safe. But contact your physician if you are unsure about that.

How the hell do you guys take neurontin during the day? Even at only 200mg it wiped me out.
Also, it was touted as less habit forming than benzo's but have been researching and there are cases of people who took it only for pain (not anxiety) who now have horrible anxiety problems after tapering off.
This is the end of the thread.
