I've been taking 2mg Xanax XR for about a week and a half, while tapering off Klonopin. If I take the XR as directed in the early morning (say 5:00am), I still need extra immediate release Xanax every few hours until early afternoon, at least. Then I'm fine for the rest of the day and night. It's like a very long delayed reaction, then continuous, effective release. Have others experience this? I will ask the doctor, but has anyone taken it at bedtime with good results the next day? Thanks.

Xanax XR reaches maximum plasma concentrations 5 - 11 hours after you take it. I'm on 2 mg/d and i take a 1 mg XR tablet in the morning and a 1 mg XR tablet at night which keeps blood levels pretty linear. I strongly believe the XR version has to be taken twice daily from my own experience. Also note that you might need a slightly higher dose on XR compared to IR for the same effect.

i'm taking 1mg and was taking 2.5mg of k. but the 5mg at night was to help me sleep. well, it didn't work. it just made me depressed. i take my xanax xr in the morning, along with prozac and wellbutrin. in about an hour i start to feel very antsy and restless. that lasts for about an hour or so. i went straight from k to xanax xr. i'm wondering if i should be taking it two times a day too. oh, i take geodon at night too. i am tired in the afternoon and just wait anxiously for bedtime. right now i just can't wait to go to sleep and it's 6pm. should i ask my pdoc to up it to twice daily?

My doctor only prescribes Xanax XR as twice daily (every 12 hours). I took 1mg Xanax XR twice daily and in a few days it was so smooth I felt no changes or "peaks and valleys."

I dont know if i'm understanding you correctly. Are you saying your doc changed you from 2.5 mg Klonopin to 1 mg Xanax XR once daily? If so he/she lowered your dose far to much. Since Xanax and Klonopin are pretty much equipotent you should have been switched to at least 2 mg Xanax XR/day(1 mg in the morning and 1 mg at night).

i am noticing that the xanax is wearing off by the evening time and my mood stays bad till the morning. i start to get real bitchy. my nerves are shot. i'm going to talk to him about taking it in the evening too. or in the early evening. something to ward off this not being able to deal with my kids thing. they really get on my last nerve in the evening. i turn into this yelling bi**h. i feel like i'm nagging them to death. but every little thing they do really gets to me.

sleep. and then i took .5mg in the morning to help my nerves. but i noticed i was getting depressed again. but, i wasn't suppose to stay on the 2mg for good. it was just for a little while to help me sleep. it didn't work though. so we went to xanax xr 1mg daily. i'm thinking of asking him to up it to 1mg 2xdaily. it seems to wear off in the evening then my nerves are shot. i get very edgy and easilly mad. real mad. i didn't notice this while i was away though. it started when i got back home and was into my usual everyday stressors of kids and home and stuff.
