question about stimulant poop out

Posted by mike lynch on September 30, 2004, at 15:17:01

I have noticed that the euphoric and noticable effects of the ritialin are still as apparent as ever but it doesent seem to be as effective in regards to relieving the symptoms it once did.. Attention doesen't seem
to be as good.. I can't read as well..my speech is not much better then it is off of it.. handwriting ditto..

So what does this mean.?
. I always assumed when a stimulant pooped out it would be the whole package.. you just wouldn't feel it working anymore..Is it just that my symptoms have been getting worse?? Or what could be the explanation.. After coming off SSRI's I have been experiencing the following problems..stimulants have helped but the ritalin doesent seem to be doing it's job anymore..or maybe im just getting worse i dunno

Trouble reading ( skipping words.. while reading, general eye tracking problems)

slow thinking generally

trouble speaking ( never happened in my life.. but since I came off SSRI's i developed this sudden problem

My speech problems is the most disturbing aspect of this..as this was never a problem before and I now find myself resisting the urge to join in conversation because my speech and setennce structure is so bad..I really can't stand it..

I suspect it has more to do with the SSRI withdrawals or the new absence of SSRI's in your regimen. I've heard the opposite: that the stimulant euphoria fades first but the benefits remain. It's also possible you are on too high a dose of ritalin, or now that the SSRI's are gone, you need less. Too high a dose can mess up your clear thinking.

Prozac doesent have a withdrawal considering it's long half-life...I've been off it for several months regardless. I've been on the same dose (ritalin-20 ONCE A DAY NOT ON WEEKENDS)) for such a long time and everything was fine until recently when my symptoms becamse more prominent then they were before..
