Hello. Anyone tried Neurontin to treat SA and had good results, or otherwise? What dose you been on?
I am considering combining it with small dose of Clonazepam. Any ideas?!!!
Hugs,
Christine

Have not tried Neurontin, althrough I will likely try pregabalin when its available in the US, which should be relatively soon (6 months). Have you tried selegiline + aminos?

Do you know what aminos are the best for social anxiety, GAD and just plain old ruminating, anticipatory anxiety. Anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciaated. Thanks

I'll let you know more particulars when I experiment for myself (should be within 2 weeks). I can tell you that a number of experiments with selegiline 5-10mg plus 250 to 1000 mg l-phenylalanine were successful for depressive symtoms. The amino by itself is not sufficient, the combination was. Right now, I take Klonopin + Cymbalta for social anxiety, which works well, but I'm looking to augment for prosociability. Amisulpride thusfar has not worked, so I'm going to try provigil, and then selegiline + aminos. There are other possibilities beyond that, but that's the game plan for now.

Thanks so much. I look forward to hearing how your experiments go. I am looking into trying Picamilon, which is a blend of Gaba/niacinimide. I have seen that some people have used it for anxiety with success. Have you tried it? If so, what was your experience? There is also a product that I came across that looks interesting. It is a blend of Vinpocetine, Huperzine A, pyritinol, DMAE, CDP-Choline, Picamilon and Rhodiola Rosea. It would appear that the ingredients would help combat anxiety, lack of motivation and focus, and faulty memory. May be worth a try.

Pregabalin was recently rejected approval for anxiety. If released soon, it will only be for pain and need to be prescribed that way.

You might give Keppra a try. Of the anticonvusants for anxiety, it works pretty good with little side effects. It also "clears your mind" and is a good mood enhancer. I take 250mg three times daily.
I tried Neurontin and it would poop out with every dose increase within about 3 days and actually made me less social.

Are you sure about the "will need to be prescribed that way" part? In the U.S., doctors are allowed to prescribe any approved drug for whatever disorder they wish to prescribe it for. Does your statement have anything to do with Pfizer (the mfr of Neurontin) getting in trouble for actually *promoting* it to doctors for unofficial indications (always a no-no)?
As for the original question, I found that Klonopin alone worked better for my SP than Klonopin+Neurontin.

Interesting. There was recently a small study suggesting Keppra might be useful for Social Phobia, although the stats didn't look "glowing".
How long did the Keppra take to start helping your SP? Are you taking anything else with it?
I can't imagine anything working better for me than Klonopin+Provigil, but I'm still curious, especially from an "add-on" perspective.
Thanks,
Rick
