One mechanism of clonazpam is listed as 5-ht increase. Does this mean more 5-ht reaches the receptors, or does it mean that more accumulates at the axon ???

In reply to question about clozepam, posted by linkadge on September 27, 2004, at 14:26:21
Basically what im trying to get at this. Does it promote serotogenic activity or depress it. Could it contribute to serotonin syndrome if say, used in conjunction with a MAOI.

it means that it enhances serotenergic activity. however, it's not mainly serotonergic, rather it do that as a by product of daily use. i doubt it can cause a serotonin syndrom. i took it with ssri with no problems.
A serotonin syndrom can occur when two drugs that both directly enhance serotenergic transmision, by active mechanism such as Monoamin oxidase inhibitor or by reuptake means.

Is what you're saying that benzo's in general raise serotonin activity.
When consulting the webpage:

some benzo's have 5ht increase others do not.
