Hi gang,
In a previous post I mentioned that I take 50 mg of Lexapro daily (in addition to 1200mg Neurontin). Another poster was quite alarmed b/c the reccommended dose is 10-20mg. I was wondering what other lex users take.
I should say that I typically need a little more of a drug to get a response (in the past: 50-60mg Paxil, 50mg Prozac). Although I am puzzled b/c lex is supposed to be a lower dose drug...

Yep, I have been on Lex for about 9 months now. For social anxiety. Started at 10mg, then upped it to 20.
I like Lexapro. It seemed to improve my mood and general well being, mainly, I think, because it REALLY improved the quality of my sleep (a big plus).
But the SP---nothing much. So I asked my p-doc if we should goose it to 30mg, but she shook her head. There's no evidence that more than 20mg a day of Lexapro will give an improved response in anybody. Better I should try something else.
So I did. And my SP is now much better. But I stayed on the 20mg Lexapro (until the free samples ran out!) Then I cut it back to 10mg. No problem. (Unless you call an increased interest in sex a problem.)

I take 10 mg a day. I like it very much but I've a hit a couple of the "bumps" people have mentioned.
If there's one thing I've learned from this board, everyone's body is different. If you need 50 mgs and its working for you, and it's under the care of a dr who knows, that's fine. I'm always amazed at the range of reactions there can be to the same drug/substance.

I am currently on 30mg of Lexapro. I started at 10mg, increased to 20mg for 2 weeks and up to 30mg. I have been on it for 3.5 months and am depression free. It took 45 days to kick in. I also took Prozac for 7 years previously and I was Rxed 100mg which is 20mg greater than recommended max dose. Stopped Prozac because it pooped out.

I am on 10mg Lexapro dayly. I am also on 0.5mg Clonazepam twice a day: before going to bed and after getting up in the morning. I have been on it for about 3 weeks.
I was getting better the first week, but then I added Wellbutrin for sex problems and tryed both together for 2 weeks. It didn´t work and it made the good feeling on Lexapro to wear off. The doctor suggested me to up the dosage to 20mg (he said 10 is a small dose), but I prefer to stay on 10mg for some time. I am not sure now if the good will come back. I think Wellbutrin has to leave my body before I have the benefits of Lexapro again. If not, I will take the 20.

Just 5 mg for six months for me and was working well, depression free. Hit a bump and upped to 7.5 a week ago and got all the same old side effects although more mild. Think I am coming out of it though. I am pretty sensitive to medications I think.

I've been taking 40mg for about 20 months with good results. But I also take Strattera, Wellbutrin, and Lamictal.

I take 10 mg a day and it does seem to be helping. I am less anxious and my mood is better overall. However, I am still sleepy after 3 months.

Currently @30mg, have gone to 40mg around period and cut back to 30 again w/o problems other than headaches. Cletus2, who hasn't posted in a while, was taking 100mg Lexapro.
My pdoc told me I could go up to 40mg or even higher if I felt I needed it, so I would not be so worried that you are taking too much, we are all different, and some of us need more medicating than others.

K - I am curious about your getting off Wellbutrin while on Lex. My husband is on both and has decided to wean off Wellbutrin. I advised him to do it slowly - ie take one every other day and cut dosage slowly. Please let me know how it goes for you without the Wellbutrin and any withdrawl effects you have. Thanks - Sus

I'm doing very well on 30 mg Lexapro, along with Strattera.
I don't see any problem with 50 mg.

I was on 10 mg and tried to go off by tapering...found out that it wasn't yet my time so am now back on 5mg's I could probably be taking 10 mg easily but I don't feel depressed now or irritable (just sometimes) so I think I'll try to stay at 5mg. I gained about 8 pounds on 10 mg. I am hoping that I can get back down in my weight on 5mg..
