So far I've had moderate success with Neurontin, slowly improving....Can anybody tell me their success story if they have one, on this med? Also, what it was prescribed for. Thanks

The two major indications (as shown on the patient insert) for this drug are epilepsy and neuropathic pain. It was prescribed for the latter. When I had very painful herpes zoster (shingles) a few months ago, I took only 300 mg. before bed. The analgesic effect was remarkable and I slept better that night than any night i can remember. And I was quite relieved that I had had no adverse reactions, since I take 30 mg/day MAOI Parnate on an ongoing basis.
I myself would like to know if anyone has had success with Neurontin for other kinds of pain.

I would consider myself a partial Neurontin success story. I have probs w/ anxiety and depression and started the Neurontin about 2 yrs ago to help w/ anxiety. Right now I take 1200mg (divided into 3 doses), but that has been raised a few different times in the past 2 yrs.
Neurontin has helped me the most w/ decreasing headaches and rumination (worries).
I suspect one reason that I haven't been a complete success story is that my life has been pretty rotten in the past few yrs and it is hard to feel less anxious and depressed when your life is falling apart! But i think Neurontin is certainly worth trying. Very few side effects (maybe a little sleepiness). Good luck!

Would you go so far as to say that Neurontin could be a viable anti-depressant?

>yes, i think that i would b/c of the way that it helped me think more clearly instead of focusing on my worries. It's a little hard to say though b/c my depression and anxiety are so linked for me. I think that there were a few times when my pdoc upped me when I was feeling more depressed and it helped (although my memory is a little fuzzy on this!) However, I think I do remember her saying that that most people find that it helps most with physical symptoms like muscle tension, rather than mental ones like worries. It's all so hit or miss, isn't it?
