A friend of mine is on Effexor and that is one of his complaints. Does something with simethicone (OTC, like Gas-X or Phazyme) help?

Hi Ray

Products I am not familiar with from where I come from. I just grit my teeth and hope my boss doesn't need to come into my office!!

It's probably related to constipation, which can lead to -- forgive me -- fermentation...

Anything you can do to increase what polite people call regularity should help. (And you have my deepest, most empathetic sympathy on this one.)

Best luck.

I don't recall suffering this on Effexor, but I have had gas problems on other meds that simultaneously were causing constipation. Perhaps this might have been causing more gas to build up and/or hindering its natural movement, whatever that might be.

Yes; are you also constipated like me? » SAW

I've been taking 300mg docusate sodium (stool softener) to help with the slow bowels. I assume your gas is related to the same. Try Mylanta or Maalox for the gas. Both also have a laxative action and you can take the stool softener with them too. Good luck.

I tried effexor for about a month, and amongst the *numerous* side effects I experienced a lot of digestive distress initially. I think after a couple weeks that specific side-effect tapered off. I think effexor is a highly effective AD, for most it very frequently has too many negative side effects. Best of Luck!

The gastrointestinal complaints decreased for me after about two-three weeks on Effexor.

Thanks for all the replies. I have had no problems with constipation. Just the flatulence. I haven't changed my diet so doubt it's that. I'm sure it will start to ease up (at least I HOPE so)

i had awful stomach problems when i went back on effexor a couple of years ago -- gassy and bloated, switching back and forth from constipated to diarrhea...lost a lon of weight and just looked unhealthy. it went away over time, though.

As a first-time poster, I hope I am not violating any rules of etiquette, but I have not seen anyone post anything about the most salient feature of the flatulence issue I am experiencing: STINK!
My wife says it wakes her up at night, and I have purchased so many cans of air freshener that I'm probably affecting the price on the stock market. I have tried to blame it on our dog, but even my dog leaves the room when I have an episode.
I'm hoping this is one of the side-effects that subside with time. If not, it won't be long before I'm visiting the "singles" web sites.
