Hi all, almost time to see my DOC - Sept. 10th. And talk about a reduction of my 200mg daily of Serzone. I am 34 year old Male, not overweight, and do not smoke or drink. Back in June I reduced my Serzone/Nefazodone foolishly on my own, which I do NOT reccommend - filing it down to about 180mg a day, a 20mg overall reduction over 21 days - from a 7 year steady 200mg a day. Here is what I discovered PURELY BY ACCIDENT though in doing so, and really need some serious advice and input from you all, I started to wake up with morning erections, something I have NEVER done in 7 years on the 200mg a day, I started to get more feeling down below, which I guess made me start to think about sex, and start to desire it, and my woman more, I did not need or have to work as hard to get an erection in foreplay, stimulation felt more sensitive like it should, but on 200mg area feel dull or numb, on the 180mg when I ejaculated it was harder with more sensation, and more thrusting. People I am not trying to be gross here, but I am also tired of them saying SERZONE does not cause sexual Dysfunction, cause for me it does, cause as soon as I resumed the 200mg the Morning erection was weak the next day, weaker the next and now non existent again, I virtually have no desire again, and ejaculations are weak, and somewhat retarded, with little thrusting. I know I am not imaganing this side effect, does anyone else have a Hypo Active sex drive on Serzone or these Meds ? Any Males out here either ? I have been really depressed since I upped it to the 200mg again, to get even that small taste of my sex drive back, and lose it again is depressing. I am hoping my Doc can at least SUPERVISE my reduction this time, and get me to where I have some feeling and sex drive, yet still get some effects for Depression and Anxiety, and still avoid withdrawal symptoms, wow I have discovered for 7 years I have been basically neutered. I mean I got felling but it is a weak feeling, it is like the 200mg dulls my normal sensation on my penis, again I apologize, cause I am not trying to be gross, I just feel a 34 year old man needs to have a little of all, help with depression and anxiety, and able to enjoy sex with his female partner. I mean Before Serzone I had a MAJOR Sex Drive, got depressed had none, took Serzone got it back somewhat which felt like alot compared to the Depression, but once I reduced I felt parts of the TRUE sex drive I should have, and the Serzone sex drive sucks. Someone HELP !!! I know people add Wellbutrin to Serzone, would that really help my Libido ? Advice please CHEMIST or ANYONE ! HELP

I am female, but had the same result when I finally got off Serzone, after several years. I never once thought the lack of either desire or response had anything to do with Serzone, since it wasn't one of the drugs which reportedly had that side effect..........hah! So, no, it isn't only you and yes, it is possible to go off of it, it just takes a long sustained effort and a good replacement.

UPSANDDOWNS, you mean your desire cameback as you decreased the Serzone ? How long did you take Serzone, what strength, and how did you go off over how long ?
Thank you !!!

Yes, that's what happened and it was a total surprise...very welcome one. I was on as much as 400mg briefly, but mostly on 300mg for four years and then over a year and a half's time decreased to the point where I was on the final 25mg, which I remained on for another 9 months until the recall and I am now, one month after making the decision, Serzone-free for the first time in almost 6 years. The final 100mg were extremely hard; the last 25mg were next to impossible, it took three attempts. I am very sensitive to dosages and normally take a sub-therapeutic dose for the same effect most people get from higher doses. I am not one who can take SSRI's and so Serzone had just the right combo for me, but I think it is the Seratonin effect which caused the lack of desire and response. Also, it is important to know that by the end, Serzone was an adjunct to my main regimen. Good luck, TonyC....it is worth it and can be done. I now have a stockpile and am so relieved that I do not need it! I will emphasize, however, the need for pharmaceutical support and a good Pdoc while you are eliminating Serzone.

Hi.
Thanks for the description.
What made it difficult to discontinue Serzone? What sorts of withdrawal effects did you experience?

Not only a deepening of a darker mood, but since I am BPII, an increase of my symptomology, which includes anxiety, irritability, hostility and anger. My doc just gave me samples of Namenda today since I told him I will not go back on serzone due to the unacceptable sexual side effects.........anyone out there have any info about the combination of this new drug with Abilify?
This is the end of the thread.
