I have been taking the regular "immediate" release Xanax tablets .25 mg about every 4 hours (appx. 1.5 mg day) for the past 10+ years. My doc prescribed Xanax XR 1 mg. once per day. Does anybody know if this really works for 24 hours? I am so used to taking them in divided doses, it is going to feel weird to take only one a day, however it sounds so much easier. Any comments would be appreciated. I took my first one today and so far so good.

Hello, long time xanax user too. My pdoc made me try the XR also, and I didnt like it. Only because it made me tired all day. It was the 2mg dose (which is what i take daily, but when I want). I just didnt like the groggy feeling. But, that may have just been me. Otherwise it was fine.

Xanax XR is great because it does last longer, but not all day. My doctor prescribed me 1mg TWICE daily (every 12 hours). It worked great for me, never any ups and downs when prescribed this way.

My first day, yesterday, was pretty good although I was a little more tired than usual. About 10 hours after I took the Xanax XR I could feel myself coming down and getting REAL anxious and panicky. Took .5 mg of regular Xanax and felt better again. My body might just need to get used to the XR, I will have to ask my dr if I can take 2/day at my next appt. or just do what I did yesterday and take one of the regular ones if I start to get anxious.
Does anybody know if the 1 mg. tablets of the Xanax XR mean you have 1 mg. in your body all day? I am used to taking 1/2 of a .5 mg about every 4 hours of the regular Xanax which is only .25 every 4 hours (which amounts to about 1.5 mgs/day).
