Hi, Im on dla also, i started a claim for it when i was in a third stage rehab centre, kindof a dryhouse type thing. You need to get a form from the dhss firstly. You may have to get doctors letter, counsellor etc. Also the form is a bitch to fill in, takes about 3 hrs because you have to go into so much detail about your life.
Some people get help with form at citezens advice.
I was refused on the form alone, but you can appeal the decision, and get more of a case together. This involves going to a tribunal where 3 people from different departments sit and ask you questions. It sounds scary but it was quick, and they gave me low level care and mobility for 5 years. My reasons were deep depression and social phobia although i didnt really know the name of it at the time.
Do you have a history with doctors counsellors etc?

Thanks for the advice everyone (especialy the link) you've really cheered me up!

I have certainly had a lot of contact with doctors so I should be able to come up with some supporting evidence.
I hope I'll be able to cope without resorting to disability, but its good to be informed.
