Hi, I have been taking Effexor xr for a while now and I want to get off of it because of sexual side effects so they weaned me off of it and put me on wellbutrin. I have been taking Wellbutrin for 3 days now without any effexor and the last 2 days I have had flu-like symptoms, how long will they last?

You are suffering withdrawal symptoms from the Effexor; in my case, the flu-like symptoms would generally last a few days when I would go off Effexor, but other withdrawal symptoms, such as tinnitus and vertigo in my case, would persist longer. Even with weaning off the Effexor, withdrawal symptoms are still very common. However, this is a much better way to go than dropping the med cold turkey, which can cause extremely severe and debilitating withdrawal symptoms.

For me, the worst of the symptoms would always go away within a week, but some of the minor ones would linger on for weeks, perhaps up to a couple months or so. You can get an idea of other people's experiences by researching Effexor withdrawals on this board, on which there are about a kazillion posts on this subject.Todd
