Anyone using Tranxene (clorazepate) for anxiety?
How does it compare to Klonopin?

>Hi Chess,
There is no clear answer to which benzo is best because people are all different. Klonopin is said to be good because it gives the least drugged feel. Ativan has it's fans & Xanax might be the one that blows your hair back.
Cheers,
Panda.

I use to take Tranxene for my anxiety and it worked wonderful. I took other benzos besides including Klonopin, valium and Ativan and they didnt do nothin compared to Tranxene. Its not stronger than the others, but it seemed to help me more.

I've used clorazepate dipotassium (Tranxene) in the past and found it to be ungodly weak. I began at 15mg per dose, which (depending on which chart you look at) should provide the anti-anxiety equivalent of anywhere from 0.375mg to 2mg of Klonopin. It felt closer to the lower end of that spectrum for me. Then again, I'm not the best case example as I require 12mg Klonopin per day, which as I'm sure you know is very high. Several times I took rather large doses of the Tranxene to see if I could better subjectively judge its effects; 300mg felt similar to 10mg Klonopin to me (perhaps more like 2mg for a more "normal" person, lol), but much sleepier. Perhaps closer to 200mg Valium (or once again, for "normals", lol, about 10-20mg Valium). Also, clorazepate is notorious for its eratic absorption -- i.e., sometimes a dose will work just fine for you, but take that same dose, under the same conditions another time and it may not have any effect at all. Or it may take two hours longer to kick in.
Nothing beats Klonopin for me, in any area -- duration of effect, lack of tolerance, relatively low abuse potential, no mind dulling/cognitive deficit, and the pills even taste good... kinda minty sweet. <g> Xanax is next in line for me, with its disadvantages being frequent dosing (though Xanax XR has taken care of that) and rapid tolerance. Going down the list from there, I'd say Dormicum/Versed, Serax, Ativan, Mogadon, Paxipam, Centrax, Rohypnol, Halcion, Lexotan, Valium, Dalmane, Librium, ProSom, Tranxene and Doral.

Although as you said "weak", how long is Tranxene's duration of effect? I've read that Tranxene has a longer duration of effect than Klonopin. One single dose of Tranxene works 24 hours for anxiety, while Klonopin works about 12 hours after a single dose. Did you find that to be true?

I have been on it for over 10 years. I started at 15 mg went down to 7.5 mg and was at 22.5 for about a year. Personally, the increase in dose dampened REM sleep for me and slowly made my depression worse. I started 15 mg of remeron and have since weaned down to 7.5 mg and I intend to go off it for good. BTW I have anxiety/depression. The weaning process took about 3 months and the increased REM has made me feel better but it was hell weaning down.

Chess, dont listen to negative experiences regarding a medication. Medications work differently for different people. I tried Klonopin myself and didnt feel hardly any effect from it and Tranxene worked very well for me and your right that the duration of action is alot longer. Keep your head up!

krybrahaha78,
did you take the regular form of Tranxene (clorazepate), or did you take the extended-release form called Tranxene-SD?> Chess, dont listen to negative experiences regarding a medication.
