Hi everyone,
I have been on 10mg of lex for about 2 months - maybe a little longer - for anxiety. It has helped me a great deal. I usually take it around 10am every day. In the past few weeks I have had a harder time than normal falling asleep, I usually fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. I also used to be able to go to bed at 9pm and now it is closer to 10:30 or 10:45.
The problem is that I am SOOOO tired in the morning when I have to get up for work. I teach a class at my gym at 6am two days a week - and I used to get up to work out on the other days but I can barely lift my head off the pillow.
Do you think I should start taking it at night? Will that help at all? I have heard that taking it at night AFTER sex might also help in the orgasm department....
any thoughts would be appreciated!

Try switching time around, it can't hurt and may help. Also, it's still *early* in your Lex experience, believe it or not, it does take *a while* for your body to get used to it, even though most people begin getting results at 6-8 weeks. It was several months, actually almost 5 mos. before I felt I had completely adjusted to Lex. I did have trouble w/lethargy for months also. Drank lots of coffee (still do!), and also found that if I got involved in projects, the brain quit complaining about being tired and I actually felt *energized* by Lex.
God Luck!~~~8|8

My girlfriend. who is 31, has the same effect as you describe on her 25 mg Lexapro.
We found that she was not sleeping deeply enough and that adding a relaxing sleeping tablet helped her a lot.
I don't know if zolpidem, zaleplon & zopiclone will improve the depth of your sleep in the way that a benzodiazepine would. Maybe someone here can answer that. I suspect they will not as my subjective experience of them suggests that they mainly just knock me out (very effectively and with no problem).
In my girlfriend's case she found that 1.5 mg of lormetazepam works well.
It may not help a whol elot given Lexapro's half life but sh takes it in the morning. Of course if, paradoxically (and it can happen but is unusual), Lexapro makes you drowsy then take it at night.

It's so funny to me to hear people complaining about this med causing drowsiness! I was so wired on it-- I never got more than three hours of sleep a night. I think it sent me into a "mixed state." (Obviously, I quit taking it.)
Do try taking it at a different time of day-- that might make a big difference.

hi Captain,
it def. helped me to take Lex at night, before sleep (after sex!) It helped me fall asleep b/c for me it had a somewhat sedating effect. Like you I started taking it in the am, but found it more effective in the pm.Hope you're doing well!
how's life?
anything new?JenStar

In fact the two situations could be (and possibly are) quite similar.
If Lexapro prevents you sleeping because it causes you to feel so 'wired' then it is quite likely that you will start to feel tired because of this.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I was just about to start tapering off cause I miss my good sleep but decided to stick with it a little longer!
I am going to try taking it at night instead and see if that works. Last night I slept restlessly and that is so odd for me. I did have to get up at 4:45am so sometimes I don't sleep well due to fear of oversleeping!
I have also thought about taking a xanax at night, but my doctor is so frugal with writing me a script (even though it takes me 2 months to use 1 months worth) that I reserve them for emergencies!
Jen - good to hear from you! Nothing new with me! My big meeting went well and I have been busy with work! Miraculously since the MRI on my lower back, I haven't had much of a problem with my foot. However, I think reading Mrs. C's posts about her heart has mine doing something odd! :) It's the neverending hypochondria cycle. I actually think I may have pulled a muscle while bench pressing.
What's new with you?
I will try switching to night time and see if that helps - thanks for the feedback you guys!

What a great site. I can discuss orgasms without being a pervert! Anyway, you are correct that taking Lexapro right after sex should definitely help your orgasms. That's what I do (I am male). That way, you have less medicine in your body when you have sex and it does help.
In addition, I take American Ginseng each day which also noticeably helps. But it takes a month or so.
As for sleeping, it might help. It's worth trying.

I did get tired-- EXTREMELY tired. But I still couldn't sleep! I ended up getting much more depressed than I was to begin with, maybe because of lack of sleep.
This is the end of the thread.
