Chemist, I noticed that you take Luvox, what do you think of it? I was considering asking my PDOC again about it. She told me once that it has alot of drug/drug interactions, my response to that is "so what?" I might consider staying on the Lexapro, yet at a higher dose, Luvox might really hit me better. I've tried Luvox before, however I was at such a low dose (like 100 MGs) that it did zero for my OCD. I guess I'm not really sure where to go with it, who knows? Any insight into this marvelous med?

hello there, chemist here....i am a fan of it. when things first went south for me, it was the first med i tried (along with some xanax and ambien for sleep) and i was up to 100 mg tid for about 4 years. the time came when anxiety and sleep were most problematic (i took/take luvox off-label for depression, as it is approved by the FDA for OCD, not depression), and the taper was painless and i moved on. as for drug interactions, well, the monograph reads like all the rest: don't take MAOIs, don't take other SSRIs, there is a problem with lithium, warfarin, sumatriptan, and so on. i've never had a problem, and the only caution i offer is to titrate slowly, as there is a wide-dosing range, and 50 mg/day might be your magic bullet, while 400 mg might be mine. it takes about 6-8 weeks to settle in, and i don't notice any side effects (i am at 100 mg bid), even the libido stuff is minor, if not absent. you tried it at 100 mg/day, so i suspect you were under the therapeutic level. i have been quite happy with it, the weight gain is more or less neutral and heck, a little monitoring of the diet and some exercise takes care of that. as you might have gathered from my other posts, luvox and parnate are the 2 meds that have been effective for me at various times - oh, yes, there was that trileptal trial when it seemed as if mood control was more of an issue, and that was a good one - so that's my story. the key is to titrate slowly and be patient. my psychiatrist is a fan of 50 mg increments every 7 days: you might find a different schedule works better for you. in any event, i hope this was a useful reply, please feel free to prod me for more answers should you require. please do let us all know should you swap lexapro for luvox and how it goes. all the best, chemist

I also wanted to comment on Luvox. I have been on every SSRI, and other antidepressants as well as benzo's. Im not depressed but I do have OCD and Anxiety issues. Luvox was the only med that has ever helped me out of about the 20 or so meds that i have tried. I take 250 mgs daily. Its wonderful for OCD and for anxiety. I just dont understand why more people are not on it.
This is the end of the thread.
