I have been on 5 mg of lexapro for 4 days. I take it for panic attacks. Since being on this medication I become agitated and dizzy about an hour and a half after taking it. WIll this subside. I had to take a xanax to counteract the effects. The feeling it gives me is awful, its like I just want to crawlout of my skin. It feels like my head is viibrating, I can't read the paper because somehow it affects my eyes and they can't keep still enough to focus on a word.
Is this any indication that Lexapro may not be the right drug for me? Zoloft never did this to me. WIll this eventually subside?

Hi, the first 2-3 weeks on Lexapro can be hell! Increase anxiety is on of the side effects of the medication. This will subside, but expect to feel the full effect of Lexapro in 6-9 weeks.
Good luck.

I just wanted to let you know that I am in the same boat. I started lex about a month ago for panic attacks. i felt the exact same way with the vision and all and the dizziness/anxiety feelings. xanax helped and after two weeks or so, i haven't had any xanax and feel much better!
Good luck to you!

I did experience memory loss as a side effect during the first weeks. Don't worry, this SE will subside. You have to hang in there. I know it is not easy, my first weeks were very rough!
I had all the SE's and then some! After a few weeks you will notice that you feel pretty good. As in life, you will have good and bad days, dependidng on what's going on in your life; but nothing like you are going through right now.
Good luck, let us know how you are doing.

Hey Christina - I actually have experienced the memory loss as well. Sometimes I feel like I can't think of a word or am slurring my words a bit. It freaks me the hell out! Being the hypochondriac that I am, I of course think right away that I have some awful disease - but it could just be the lex. I am going to my family doc for my 5 week lex checkup on Friday and will run it by her then.
Hopefully you are feeling better. Do you have xanax or anything for the anxiety while you get adjusted?

I first have to thank everone for the wonderful; information and for being so supportive. I spoke to my doctor today and he is discontinuing the lexapro because of the side effects. I am going to try Zoloft tommorrow. Lexapro has not let me slep very well either despite the fact that I take it early in the morning. It made me have racing thoughts all night about my memory loss and how I was feeling etc... Also being a fellow hypochondriac I become very snesitive to any side effect.
I do use the Xanax which help agitation cause by the lexapro, but it does not help the aniety I experience rom my own scarythoughts.

Question:
I've been on Lexapro for about 8 days now. Today was the worst. I felt like my insides where all itchy (chest and throat especially) and to quote Christine "like I wanted to crawl out of my skin". It is the weirdest feeling ever and I hate it. I don't remember this feeling on Paxil--only that I felt nauseated for the first week. I don't feel anxious or panicky--just super odd. Does this pass, should I change med's, does my doctor need to know about this. What is acceptable in terms of side affects? Insight anyone?

They say that the side effects subside. I had to go offof it. I could not stand those same feelings that you are talking about. I almost felt like I was walking around in a bubble. My hearing felt distant, insomnia, racing thoughts, I was forgetful, easily confused, agitated, wanted crawl out of my skin, etc... THe doctor agreed Lexapro just was not for me. I am back on Zoloft. Just started but no problems thus far.
Now all that being said it is important for me to say that I am extremly sensitive to side effects because I am so intune with my body. So if you can stick it through try it, if it trulyt bothers you then call your doctor to discuss what you should do. Good luck. Keep us posted. Are you taking it for depression or panic? Often times people with panic are more sensitive to the side effects. Maybe you cab take xanax or klonopin to counteract the side effects?

>Personally, I would change meds. I had the same sort of reaction when I tried Prozac, it wasn't for me.
