Neurontin anyone?

Posted by anxiously fedup on July 1, 2004, at 21:26:03

Hi,
So anyone tried Neurontin? I went to a new dr. and because I am not depressed, and only anxious with some compulsive thinking, no rituals or whatnot he want to go in a new direction. he thinks this can help alot and this guy doesn't go to high doses like other dr's on any meds. I was on 120mg of prozac a day and people seem shocked by that. I have read mostly that neurontin is very safe, low side effects, not proven for depression but helpful for anxiety, I think the big question is how long does it work for and does it really work. the american journal of psychiatry has some good things to say about it.

so how about the grass? does anyone smoke just for fun and not to self medicate or whatever? anyone going to see spidey?
I am suprised at the amount of sexual side effects that people have, even at 120mg of prozac I am still OK, sometimes it takes a while to finish but things still work. I guess I do need a bit more foreplay but all in all it isn't bad.
Is everyone suprised at that dose of medication or have people been that high up on the dose chart before??

hi! I tried Neurontin both as a sleep aid (helpful for a while) and as an anti-anxiety drug. personally, I think there are MUCH better drugs for anxiety than Neurontin. Benzos, for instance, can help a WHOLE lot...beta-blockers can help as well. Neurontin just didn't do that much for me in terms of anxiety relief, AND the manufacturer/distributer recently settled a lawsuit in which the company was accussed of unlawful and deceptive marketing practices. There's a lot of hype around Neurontin, and shrinks seem to love it, but I personally think other meds (ADs, benzos, maybe mood-stabilizers/anti-psychotics) are the way to go. As for your Prozac dosage..that is a bit on the high side. When I've gotten to the upper-end of a medication, I've usually had a booster added (stimulant, benzo, etc.) and/or a switch in the main med. But...each doc has his/her own system, and some of them do everything to avoid polypharmacy. God luck!

Neurontin helped me a lot with anxiety for about 6 months - then it started to lose effectiveness.

After 1 year it was no longer helping at all.

I was thrilled with Neurontin since there were no adverse reactions with Parnate (MAOI antidepressant), and it alleviated severe pain from herpes zoster (shingles).

Lowering Effexorxr to 75mgs and adding Neurontin?

HELP!!! My doctor just lowered my dose of effexorxr from 113mgs to 75mgs. He has now added Neurontin 300Mgs, and says he will raise that dose soon. I am afraid my depression will come back if I take the effexor away. But the sexual side effects of effexor are so bad that those are depressing. I dont know what to do?! Has anyone tried this or had any luck with Neurontin?

Hey...were you having anxiety as well as depression. My doc wants to lower my anti-depressant. I am scared my depression will come back! Did you have any weird side effects with neurontin? What did it help with?

I've been taking Parnate (MAOI antidepressant) to keep major depression and anxiety in remission. About 1-1/2 mos. ago, I contracted herpes zoster (shingles), with #1 symptom of severe pain. So I was prescribed neurontin for the pain. I was concerned at first about adverse interactions with Parnate, but there were none. I also had no serious side-effects from the Neurontin and it helped me sleep terrifically. So I can't vouch for this med being helpful for depression but it sure alleviated physical pain from this awful version of "adult chickenpox."
