anyone had lexapro not work for them

Posted by shadowmon on July 2, 2004, at 3:52:14

anyone have lexapro not work for them?

I'm on 20 mg. The dr had to put me on remeron to give me a window of non depression in the hopes that the lexapro will kick in,

I suffer from GAD and Depression.

I switched from paxil to lexapro, but it made me lose my appatite completely and while it is stopping the GAD stuff, it's not helping the depression.

The dr wants me to go up to 30 mg next week.

Before he put me on the remeron, I was begging him to put me in the hospital because the 20 mg wasnt doing what it was doing.

Is Remeron helping you? I use it myself & am fond of it. If Lexapro is helping with GAD then I would say you & your doctor are on the right track & you should stay on it & increase it 30mg as your doctor wants to do.

I am in the same boat as you. I currently take 20 mg of Lex for Depression and GAD and have been on it for about 8 weeks. It has been great for my GAD but I don't feel that my depression has been relieved enough. I don't have the energy to do things I want to do and am pretty lethargic throughout the day.
I saw my pdoc last week and he gave me some Provigil in the hope it would brighten my mood and keep me from getting so sleepy during the day. So far it has helped my energy level but not sure if it's really addressing my depression.
I am going to stick with the Lex for another couple of weeks to get the full effect and go from there.
I was on Celexa about a year ago and it worked great so we thought the Lex would do the same but so far it hasn't. How long have you been taking the Lex for? Do you take any other meds on top of the Lex?

How much Remeron are you taking? When I was taking 15mg I found that it knocked me out, but I had a lot of vivid dreams. Increasing the doseage blocks the vivid dreams & increases the amount of time spent in deep sleep. If you are on 15mg, it is worth increasing it in small steps as 22.5mg can be better than 15mg or 30mg.

Panda.

You might be a fast metabolizer of various drugs judging by the size of your paxil doseage in another thread. Do it take you long to tolerate Remeron? Most people complain that it throws them in to a coma for the first few weeks they take it.

Panda.

the remeron works but I feel like I got run over by a truck in the morning. I still have wild dremas as well. I usually sleep (with the remeron) about 11 or 12 hours, and that is with a 45 mg dosage.

Lexapro gave me nasty side-effects, mainly fatigue. I couldn't even last a week on it. I've tried a decent amount of meds without much success, so I'm getting very discouraged about trying new ones (and them not working either, or worse).
