OMG!!! Sick as a dog from trazodone!!!

Posted by Colleen D. on July 1, 2004, at 21:16:06

I took it for the first time last night for Effexor insomnia and I walked around here today like I had the worst hangover in my life. I also had a pretty scary nightmare so I'm thinking this drug is NOT for me. Has anyone had a similar experience? Went back to the good ol' Benadryl for tonight.

Trazodone didn't agree with me--made me feel sluggish the next day, depressed even. I lasted three days and then also went back to Benadryl. Currently I am alternating between Benadryl one night and Halcion the next. This combination seems to work pretty well and is very inexpensive. I would have tried Ambien again, but it is a $50/month copay on my stupid insurance.

Packs quite a punch, doesn't it? I'm trying to decide if the hangover from the drug is better or worse than the hangover from insomnia. Or how low a dose I can whittle it down to. I'm down to 6.25 mg I think. No nightmares, fortunately.

I get "hangovers" from trazadone when I don't really need it. I'm taking 25 mg regularly as I'm getting off effexor. Otherwise, when I start getting hungover, I'll take half the dose, then when I get hangovers again, I stop taking it. When the insomnia returns I resume 25 mg. or more if it's really needed. I accept the hangover as a signal from my body that I don't need it and this way I don't develop a dependancy to it.
It sounds to me that your dose is too high. Alot of people can't stand it.

I take Remeron with my Effexor, it gives a great nights sleep & also takes care of nausea & anorgasmia caused by Effexor. The only real disadvantage to taking Benadryl is you will develop tolerance to it & it will stop working. I would possibly try introducing the Traz again, but do it slower, ie, break up the tablets & only use quarter for the first week. Alternately, King Vultan's alternate nights of a Benadryl & Benzo isn't a bad one & should stave off tolerance to both for a fair while.

Cheers,
Panda.
