Hey let us know how the Gel works. I'm about ready to start on it as well. My RX says insurance won't cover and only runs about $40 per month. I take selegiline sr5mg that they made up 4 me and I really like it.

A Pharmacy that will make compounds can do it. Call your local University. You do need a script. From what I understand from the pharmacy I called, you rub it on your neck. FYI I did call Watson Pharm, co producers with Somerset, of the "patch". They said everything was approved. All that is needed now is what the label will state...and how it will be marketed. She said all approvals should be done this summer with product being available b4 the end of this year.

Thanks for the update on the patch. I have two questions if you don't mind...

who was the contact you talk to at Watson? Also, when they said before it would be available before the end of this year, do you think this was a conservative answer or can we expect it even before then? I was told by a few other posters that they read it was only a few months before hitting the market.

I don't remember the woman I spoke with at Watson Pharm. You can call their PR dept. Her name and number is listed on their web-site. I do believe her answer was very conservative. Somerset Pharm took my phone number and said they'll call with updates.

Not to rain on anyones parade, but the drug companies tend to underestimate the time of a drugs release. They want and need to keep investors interested until the drug finally hits the market. Ensam has received an "approvable letter", but not final approval.

For a similar example, look at Cymbalta/duloxetine. It received its "approvable letter" over TWO YEARS ago and has just recently gotten final approval with a launch date expected later this summer.

Hopefully this won't be the case with Ensam, but as far as I have heard they haven't received final approval and they haven't started production of a product.

I hope it will be out later this year, (I will be first in line to try it!)but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'm sorry I didn't respond to this sooner, because I have some experience with transdermal selegeline. A few months back I had it compounded into a cream form.

I don't know if it is the same as the patch, but I Do know that it didn't do much for me that I am aware of. Having said that, I am pretty sure now that selegeline is not the drug for me. I also took it orally with no AD effects.

Of course that doesn't mean it won't work well for you........as a matter of fact, I would be curious to know if it does or doesn't. And I wish you lots and lots of good luck with it.

Hi,
I've currently been on the gel (30 mg) for 5 days to no avail in terms of my depression... I'm not quite sure how long I will continue with this current regime, but I still think the transdermal patch holds great promise...

I just called their Investor Relations dept as well. The guy I spoke with said that they will be re-submitting data to the FDA justifying the lack of need for dietary restrictions on the labelling. They should hopefully be getting that to the FDA by the end of the summer. Additionally, Somerset is still in talks with a marketing partner. Consequently, he said that it won't probably be launched until the end of 2004/early 2005.

Hopefully we can count on a shorter turnaround from the FDA for once, but I don't think we should count on it.

Hey, anyone who has been in trials for the patch: How often do you put a new patch on? Just curious.

Thanks!

I wasn't involved in the trials, but I am certain that you changed the patch daily.

Why would you have to change it daily? Other medication patches, such as the birth control patch, is only changed once a week! Not that it matter either way--I was just curious.

Anybody out there who was in a trial?
