Since we are keeping this positive, in my opinion you will be way better off taking the med at night. You are sure to sleep well : )

Taking it twice a day might make you sleepy

Zyprexa & Remeron are non-selective 5-HT2 antagonists while Seroquel is much more selective at blocking 5-HT2A only while having much less effect on 5-HT2C receptors. 5-HT2C antagonism increases appetite.

You wanted to hear no negatives, and I have to report that I've experienced none at all.

I'm on 10mg Lexapro each morning and take 25mg Seroquel each night. I sleep like a rock, period end of sentence.

The only thing that I have to watch about Seroquel is that I take it at the right time. I like to wake up at 6AM, so I take my Seroquel right at 8PM, so that I am ready for sleep by 10PM or so. I am UNABLE to stay awake past 10:30PM, it's lights out.

Seroquel made me lose about a pound a week (without changing anything to my normal routine) whereas Zyprexa made me hungry all the time ... and thus making me gain weight

What effects does Seroquel have on 5-HT1a receptors? Another poster suggested that it was an antagonist. A few Medline abstracts suggested it was an agonist. My girlfriend is experiencing a robust and sustained antidepressant effect from Seroquel 700mg. I have become interested in trying this myself. According to the BNN newsletter, a recent study determined that Seroquel monotherapy 300-600mg was effective for treating bipolar depression. Interesting.

Thanks.

Hi Scott,

I don't know. :) I am mostly facinated buy things that block 5-HT2A since it seems to be the cornerstone of most of the AP's, TCA's & alot of migraine prevention drugs.

I will investigate however :)

Cheers,
Panda.

Nearly everything I have found says Seroquel is a 5-HT1A agonist which is supposed to be valuable in treating psychosis.

Panda.

Thanks for checking on that, Panda. I'm surprised that combining Buspar with an AP isn't more common. Have you ever heard of this? Maybe Buspar would help out with negative symptoms. Just thinking out loud...

Buspar helps with the negative symptoms of depression (apathy, anhedonia). I am considering going back on 30 mg. (Again, a shame the FDA didn't approve gepirone ER....)

Hi Scott,

I have always got the impression that Buspar was just a placebo to most people.

Looks like Geodon & Abilify are 5-HT1A agonists too.

Cheers,
Panda.
