I got off miltown a while back, because it just really gave a tolerance. I've been on Xanax before, but i had a opposite anxiety reaction to it, for some ironic reason.
How effective is it out of all the benzodiazepine's compared.
Thanks

> Hey! Personally, I think Ativan is OK, but that Klonopin (clonazepam) is a WHOLE lot better. Klonopin has a long half-life, so you only need to dose 2, at most 3 times a day....there also seems to be less of a tolerance problem with Klonopin than with shorter-acting benzos like Ativan and Xanax, so doses don't have to be upped as often. Also, if you had a "paradoxical reaction" to a short-acting, high-potency benzo such as Xanax, you may want to try something that lasts longer and doesn't hit as fast or as hard (Klonopin is potent, just like Xanax, it justs lasts forever).

Did you use name brands or generics?
(In a different thread, I just posted my initial impression how name brand Wyeth Ativan is so much superior to the Mylan generic that there isn't any real comparison. Other posts I've seen suggest that this may be true with the other benzos, too.)

>When I tried Ativan, I went for name brand, b/c I'd heard there was a major difference. Anyway, it was OK and all, but I still prefer (generic) Klonopin because it lasts longer and, for me at least, provides more relief from anxiety without any noticeable side effects. Just my experience.

>Hi Monroe1980
Are you born in 1980?, i doubt it if you have taken Miltown in the past considering its a rather ancient seldom used med these days. When I first used Xanax I had the same reaction you describe, would feel great for 4 or so hrs, then had a hangover-like feeling, It would be bad the next day, if i took it at nite, i would be mentally unstable- the similar reaction as if i drink alcohol- of which, of all the benzos which have been ignorantly described as (Alcohol in a pill)Xanax seems the closest-initial high, social interaction effects, then sedation, then hangover like effects, some have described Xanax as an excellent Psychic quick-acting pain killer, and I would agree some with this.I have been on Clonazepam for 16 months 2-4 mgs a day, and while I guess it works some, it doesn't dissolve acute psychic tension like taking .5-1mg of Xanax, which i may add last time i took it the effects were different than first time, a consequence of neuro changes of long time Clonaz use Im guessing, despite the setbacks, or 10-20mgs of Diazepam, which sedates me then has a subtle drop off-nice, unfortunately my current **hol* Doc knows I like it and will seldomly give it to me, This may soon change, will said Doc, I am keen to try Ativan, for my severe anxiety condition, however everytime I have suggested it, he wont go there, althought he Scribes 60mgs 3x daily of Ritalin, cos the Psydoc I saw says I have an ADD like condition,so that apparently makes it alright HA<medicine> althought I quit this 2 days ago and feel better, althought mentally sluggesh, while my dopamine receptors figger out whats going on,-I guess,
Hope this helps sum.
Good Health

Did you use name brand or generic? The short half-life you describe seems to be a sign of a poor quality generic.

As I've been posting all over here, go with the name brand.
In the "literature" Ativan is regarded as almost as "bad" as Xanax as it is also a fast-acting short half-life benzo that is many times more potent as Valium.
But, I do find Ativan "gentler" than Xanax, therefore preferable.

I took Meprobamate generic form 400mg. Same thing as miltown. I tried SSRI's which gave me nothing but side effects. Then went to diazepam, xanax which did opposite anxiety reactions. I asked my doctor about miltown at first, but he wanted to wait and put me on xanax. My grandma took it that why i knew about it when i was kid and drove her crazy when i spent the night, so she shoved miltown down my mouth. It worked somewhat, but tolerance really skyrocketed and eventually came ineffective.
Anyways, right now im not on anything, i take GABA supplements, and Kava, but that really is a placebo. Thanks for the post
Do you take Desoxyn by the way, i read some of your posts that were monsterous on it, i take dexedrine for add.
Anyway Later

>thanks Monroe so you were born 1980?. Miltown would be interesting to try, the first common human used Pharm 'trank'.Circa 1956,
No I have never Taken Desoxyn. It is not available in New Zealand-next to Australia. I was just fascinated that the US has a medication form, of the current scurge of New Zealand Drug Abuse Methamphetamine, and wanted some users info on it. I certainly started something there I guess. Here we only have Methyphenidate,10mgIR and 20mgSR which I was taking up to a week ago,up to 60mgs a day, and Dexamphetamine-Dexedrine in USA, not used much here at all and only in white 5mgIR pills, and which my psych doc mentioned is used in the US far more, while looking at me closely, when I showed an interest it, before commenting out of the blue "It has a higher street value" and "most patients, even thoes who have used both, prefer Methyphenidate" which he said has a greater effect on the higher thought centres mmmmmmmmmmm. I still would like to try Dex however and Ativan, in my continuing quest for mental wellness

I'm sorry about that, some doc's are really stingy about medications, i had one before, dr. grey. If you want to chage medications with these kind, DO NOT, tell him another medication you want to switch too, becuase usally they will argue and not consider it.
Just say what kind of symptoms you have, I used to put my dad's client brief's in the refrigerator all the time, becuase i would just come home tired and go into a daze and not rerember anything. I used to leave my history book in there too back in high school. and then find the milk carton in the cabnients, CRAZY! I told him also i dont pay attention on the highway, and usally daze off and swerve into other lanes causing wrecks and chaos, but now finally i make sure my mind doesnt go in these space cadet states.
That made him worry some.. adn he did finally chagne my medication to dexedrine, before i was on adderall which didnt really work, even at high doses, i was on 60mg a day.
Methylphenidayte at high doses can act stimilar to dexedrine, but many articles say dexedrine is smoother than ritilin. Still i hope you can convice your doctor of the medication that you need.
Oh, you asked what miltown felt like, its similar to barbiturates, but i mean tolerance skyrockets fairly fast. When i used to feel like metal was just grinding in my body, i took one or two, it made things better, mmm like feeling of calmness thats enjoyable, like just dont worry about things and enjoy life. benzo's arent really enjoyable they just make you calm, klonoplin gave me like a "depressed calm". Anyways, Higher doses do produce euphoria, but the tolerance keeps going up, so eventually I just stopped taking it.
Matt
