How long should i continue paxil/ssri's,thanks

Posted by slinky on June 5, 2004, at 11:46:24

I've been on it nearly 4 weeks..at first it stopped my intrusive thinking but i'm starting to feel dread, suicidal thinking, itching extreme agitation..last night i started punching my skull to try and shut my thinking.
I don't want to go outside incase I get agreessive.
The only ssri left to try is luvox.
I continue to take neurontin which helps me to calm down.
Im female and seretonin helps with bad menstral stuff.
If a list of all meds i've tried and effects helps..i'll post later..-I have very short attention span and need to settle and think before i post again.
Any help i'd appriciate.I live in uk .

You could try a low dose of SSRI combined with
5-htp. FIsh oil is usefull in OCD as well. You could try to augment the paxil with some trazedone to reduce the agitation.

Hi Linkage..

Is omega 3 or 6 or both best in the fish oil?
I never considered trazodone , I've looked it up on net and I'll mention it to pdoc...thanks.

Nikki..Hi.
Yes I've took Zyprexa for a few months..only recall feeling very very hungry even after food and constantly thinking of food. Thanks anyway.
Funny , my brother has started the ssri route..his last words on the subject was 'they're crap' : )

<<<<< Sorry to interrupt, but do you think that adding traz might also offset agitation from Wellbutrin? How about Ritalin?

I have traz I can take for sleep, and like it ok, except when I wait too late to take it or take it every night (at least when not also on anything else). I did notice once that when I was taking phentermine by day (which agitated me greatly alone) and traz at a sleep dose by night, I actually felt very good. Is that reason to think it could make Wellbutrin or Ritalin work for me, which both agitate me otherwise?

If so, do you think a sleep dose of traz (25 to 50 mg) could possibly be enough? I'd take the traz at night, right?

Thanks much if you have any thoughts on this. I have long wished Wellbutrin would work for me (tried for depression/lethargy), because of the lack of weight gain thing. And Ritalin did work for me for many weeks (for a possible ADD dx in that case), but then starting making me very...what's the word? lability? Agitated, moody, can't quite describe it. Didn't seem related to the wearing off window. On that note, people have suggested I try dexedrine or Adderall instead, but at this moment I have no pdoc or inspiration, yet I do have Wellbutrin, Ritalin and traz left over that I could toy with for now. Choosing to try augmenting one or the other with traz, I'd anticipate -- not trying them all together.

If SSRI's cause you extreme agitation & suicidal ideation I would abandon them & try something else. Have you tried Effexor? If yes, then it's time for a TCA or a MAOI.

Cheers,
Panda.

generally it is the omega 3 in the fish oil that has been attributed to improved mental health.

Trazedone should lessen nightime agiation caused by many other drugs. However it depends on just how stimulated you are. If it is mania, trazodone might not help. If it is agitation caused by the medication, then trazodone should help. I found 25 mg counteracted the insomnia caused by 20 mg of celexa. You may require more. If 50mg has no appreciable affect, then you really need to think about changing your core meds somehow.
