I just started 2.5 mg Zyprexa at bedtime (about 11 PM) and I am a zombie. I slept till about noon and I'm still fuzzy at about 1:30. I am extremely susceptible to sedation (a lot of drugs knock me out). Is there a way to counteract this effect? Does it go away in time? There doesn't seem to be much point in taking it if it makes me less functional.

Ilene, I tried it for the same symptoms and could not tolerate it. I slept like a hibernating bear and put on enough weight to be one too.

I already take benzos and ADs. Current regimen is Klonopin, Marplan, Cytomel, Neurontin, and was Risperdal. The Zyprexa is substituting for the Risperdal. It's supposed to have a stronger anti-anxiety and AD effect.I don't want the sedation. I usually sleep okay.

You can counter it with wellbutrin sr (thats what I do), or some other stimulant. Or you could try Abilify on its own or with the zyprexa. Abilify is much more stimulating, the oposite of zyprexa.

If you are taking it for anxiety (like I do), you should keep taking it (it the best), and take wellbutrin with it. You won't need much, 100-200 mg.

Hey, Ilene
Havent heard from you for a while. how are you? When I started zyprexa, the sedation was pretty bad. For me, it has slowly gotten better. t's been 6 weeks and I'm relatively normal, I just drink a little coffee if I start to get sleepy.

2.5 is a pretty low dose. I am on 10 (was 15) mg of Zyprexa and I am also chronically exhausted but I am not sure if it is the Zyprexa or the others meds that I am taking that do it.
