new to effexor

Posted by just-a-girl04 on June 3, 2004, at 16:48:30

Hi, I just started taking effexor xr for about a week now, my doc gave me some samples, week one 37.5 mg then week two 75 mg. I was taking zoloft 200 mgs a day for about three yrs. it worked at first and seemed like a lifsaver, but I still had these huge bouts with depression at times, and I finally decided I should try something else. I went straight to effexor from the zoloft and at first I felt like crap, by day four on the effexor I decided to take two of the 37.5 and the next day I went striaght to the 75 mg Im feeling better but I have been feeling kinda sleepy. Im concerned about gaining weight since in the past year I've gained about 60 pounds. I figured it was from the deppression since I haven't had a job in about 2 yrs and I've been in and out of school so my day is spent mostly at home. Im getting pretty desprate Im only 23 and have zero motivation. It sucks cause my family is sorta retarded and they have no clue what depression is, so to them I'm lazy! HELP! I cant afford to gain anymore weight and I need to be on meds or I will go over the edge. Anyone with any advice would be greatly appreciated nobody I know gets this!

Everyone's different. Some people gain, others lose weight on it. Others notice no change in weight. I gained a little but I'm also on wellbutrin xl and now some of the weight is coming off.

I know what you mean about zero motivation. The last thing I can imagine doing while severely depressed is any kind of exercise, but it will honestly make you feel better. I had to force myself to do this - and all I can manage is walking and sometimes I get on my bike. But moving around makes a big difference.

thanx so much for replying to me I do make an effort to workout as much as I can I have a nordic track right in my room staring at me everyday. So I do my best to force myself on it even if only for 5 or 10 min, cause I know that it does help. I guess I will just have to cross my fingers and hope I dont turn into a statepuff marshmellow!
