Whenever I have an anxiety attack I go on the internet and look up the symproms of what I think I have. Last night I thought I had a blood clot in my leg so I looked up leg pain and read all the symptoms and causes and determined I didn't have a blood clot. Then I saw muscle pain and zoloft withdrawl and that led me here to this site. It was very reassuring to know I was not dying. Give it a try.

Sorry It has been so long since your post...are you OK?

First off, you need to call your doc and let him know what's going on!
So, are you taking the remeron, or nothing at all?
As long as it's ok with your doc and/or you've taken it before, you might want to get some valium in you. There's no reason to suffer like this.
I don't know what your diagnosis is, but I've always had good luck with remeron. Very calming for me and lifted depression. Weight gain was my only issue.
Best wishes and hope you are feeling better!

i have had musculoskeletal pain on my left chest, and I thought it was a heart attack.

Don't use any illicit drugs or drink any alcohol.

Take your valium, and do not take inderal because I read it can cause depression. I have never been on it though.

Valium is something I have taken, and it will relax your muscles.

Take a strong non-narcotic painkiller {ibuprofen} or non-narcotic muscle relaxer too if it it does not mix badly with your meds of course.

Get good sleep; eat and drink well.

Do you need exercise or have circulation problems? Exercise can help with tension and help strengthen your body to deal with it. Even just stretching and physical activity like a recreational sport can do wonders, so your mind and body are kinder to each other.

Keep track of your symptoms as objectively as possible and bring them to your doctors. It's still okay to be skeptical and doubtful about what a doctor says, but don't get paranoid or diagnosis yourself. If you don't know if you are having a heart attack, you should ask the doctor what a heart attack feels like exactly or what a panic attack feels lik exactly versus a seizure or something like that. That way you can get the doctor talking specifically, so you can rule out things in your mind instead of wondering "what if?" x, y or z is happening to you at the moment.

Even if you are just having a bad panic attack and feel you are losing consciousness are things are too scary then go to the emergency room and ask to talk to a neurologist, psychiatrist or whomever you need.

Good luck!

I'd go to a doctors for chest pains, but it would be a waste of time for you because they would most likely just increase the amount of beta-blocker that you are currently not taking. You have to want to help yourself before anyone else can help you.

I would go to the ER if you experience this type of pain.

You are PROBABLY having a panic attack, but you need to be sure.

Heart attacks do not necessarily come on suddenly. Doctors call heart attacks "myocardial infarctions" which literally means "blood starvation of the heart muscle." The heart can keep beating during a mild heart attack, but you can't be sure if it will recover or if it will lose its rythym and stop beating. That's why any suspected heart attack demands prompt medical attention.

Once again, it's probably a panic attack, but you need to get another electrocardiogram to be sure. If you are still experiencing pain, go to the ER.

Hi crazychick,

Since you have had a cardiac work up, it is safe to say this is a paniac attack. Usually there is a trigger (a situation, no meal, chocolate, caffeine, too much sugar, and/or fatigue) that sets off the cycle. Then, the flight or flight response is started muscles tense, breathing gets rapid, pulse rate and blood pressure goes up. People may experience sweating, shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, and/or trembling. These symptoms are the bodies reaction to a perceived threat. Since no physical activity is engaged, one focuses on their symptoms and assumes the worst. Statments such as these are common - "I CAN'T BREATHE. I AM GOING TO SUFFOCATE. I AM GOING TO FAINT. I AM GOING CRAZY. EVERYONE CAN SEE I AM FREAKING OUT. I CAN'T WALK. I AM GOING TO DIE FROM A HEART ATTACK." These thoughts can prolong and increase or intensify the symptoms of paniac.

Here are some things you can do to help reduce your paniac symptoms.

1. Recognize what is really triggering your anxiety.
2. Practice deep breathing (Use that tape I recommended for this)
3. Do something you enjoy
4. Express your feelings with a person or in a journal
5. Do a physical activity
6. Practice progressive muscle relaxation
7. Tell yourself that these sensations are normal and that you aren't in any danger
8. Reduce the amount of sugar, white flour products, processed foods, and caffeine that you eate.
9. Eat a snack or a small meal every 3 hours.
10. Break the habit of perfectionism
11. Use affirmations. Here's an example, "Even though I have anxious thoughts, I still completely and deeply accept myself."
12. Stop overanalysis yourself.

As I was writing this, I was wondering. I have heard that people crave sugary foods on Remeron. If that is the case here, that could definately trigger a glycemic spike and drop. If you are eating foods high in sugar and chocolate content, this could explain the paniac attacks. I really don't believe this is in one's control on that med. I have read the cravings are just overwhelming. Do you have this?

What may help you is to take a medication like Topamax. Topamax would curb cravings and help reduce the weight increase from Remeron. It may also help balance out the mood. But, as with all meds, it has side effects too. Is it available in the UK?

I feel the valium can still be used on an as needed basis. In regard to the beta blocker fear -Yes, your heart rate can slow down as you stated. If you did have a heart rate of 50, they would just adjust your dosage. But, believe it or not most people don't feel that bad when their heart slows down to 50. Patients usually complain when their heart races, because they feel that.

In regard to having a heart attack, they can tell by EKG and by drawing your blood for cardiac enzymes. On the EKG, they look at rhythm and rate primarily. You can have a fast heart beat and a regular rhythm. They will just observe you for that. Many people think that a palpitation is an irregular beat. It's usually the heart just beating extra hard from a lack of oxygen from hyperventilation.

How soon are you going to see your pdoc?

Hi Donna,

Have you ever tried the Inderal? What happened when you did? Betaloc is a good one to try too, it's more selective. These are good & safe drugs, they can save you from congestive heart failure while no amount of Valium can.

Chhers,
Panda.

You have to try the Inderal, it acts directly on your heart to slow it & relax it. If you have tablets, snap one in half & try it, it won't kill you, you may even prefer it. If your heart is restrained from palipations, you will start to feel a lot less wound up because you won't be worried about your heart beating out of your chest. Some people tell you not to take it because it is depressing, but Valium is much more depressing!

What is your blood pressure like generally?

My general advice is you are going to have to 'doctor shop' to get one that you like, but you aren't ever going to find one that is going to let you have unlimited Valium.

Cheers,
Panda.

That's pretty good, if it was high I would take a beta blocker daily, but since it's OK, I would try it next time you are stressed.

Do you have any problems before you overdosed on Effexor?

Nope none at all.. i wasnt anxious over nuthing i was just bubbly.. :-S the reason why i am so panicky now is cus i aint never experienced this hrt thing before.. yes it used to beat hard and fast when i was having a panick attacks but never as many palpitations as its doing now.. i think its cus i have nothing esle to panick about, i had an mri and lots of eeg's to determine my head was ok, then it moved on to my stomach, i have no ulcer, my cysts on my ovarys have shrunk and i am sort of ok with the rest of my gyni probs so now its moved onto my chest, i had a chest exray about 3 mnths ago as i was coughing up blood, all came back normal then i had an ekg about 2 weeks agi was normal.. i am ok now.. i will keep on taking my valium as needed its only 2mg but it seems to help me some what.. (negative result is a headache :-( )I know if i took inderal and my hrt rate was low i would rush myself to the hospital cus i would be afraid of a heart conditions called arth something, your hrt beats slower and slower then u die.. i would be to afraid, cus my bp and hr isnt that high really.. i also havent had a fag today but i am gagging :-( i might have a few puffs to ease my craving to it gradually cus u can get withdrawl symptoms from fags cant u? i stopped drinking alcohol 4 yrs ago, stopped caffeine 5 mnths ago... just drinks water now.. so smoking shouldnt be much of a bad affect on me.. i will keep you all posted.. thanks sadpanda u r a great m8... i would so love to chat to u regular so we can keep eachother on our toes.. ?

I would try some Inderal for your heart palpatations. :) Truely, it won't hurt. It would be entertaining if we could swap anxieties for a day. My social anxiety manifests itself as diarrhoea, I'm happy that I mostly don't get it anymore. I gave up cigarettes nearly 3 years ago. I chewed nicotine gum for 6 months & the I gave that up, only physical withdrawl from nicotine that I had was sleepiness. Mentally I'm pretty sure it pushed me over the edge. I am going to live longer since I stopped the cancer sticks, but I just don't feel too happy about it.

Cheers,
Panda.

Thanks! :)

I am giving up bad habits in the reverse order that I collected them. I gave up THC first, then I gave up drinking, then smoking. All I have to do now is give up eating & I will be able to live the rest of my days in total misery. :)

Crazychickuk, if i was you i would find a dr sympathetic to all your concerns, may take a while to find but will be worth it in the end, and take their advice on meds, i doubt they will give you inderal if your bp and hr are what they are.
