Several years ago I had really bad panic attacks ALL THE TIME (4-5 times a week). I always thought I was going to DIE of a heart attack or stroke. It is good that you took your meds. Now take a bath, or listen to some Mozart, whatever relaxes you. Take deep abdominal breaths and do not fight the panic. Let the feelings come and tell yourself it is OK it will pass, it is OK to feel scared. It will stop. You will be OK. Call someone who will understand or post a lot. Close your eyes and think of a time you felt safe and happy and loved. Really. Cognitive-Behavioral therapy really helped me kick panic. You will be OK. I know how scared you are.

I went through years of intense anxiety and extreme panic ( they knew my name in the ER ..lol) I've called the ambulance also. My heart was my main concern and it would flutter just like yours stop me cold in my tracks. It not going to hurt you I promise . "Hope and help for your nerves" by DR Claire weekes is an excellent book it really helps shed light as to what is happening to you . I have 2 copies if you want one email me rainee@cableone.net and I will send you a copy. I can't say enough about this book. I know how afraid you are . You will recover I promise.... You are not alone.

I feel that helping it stop is trying to find the cause. I suggest keeping a diary of when you have them - date, time, and what you were doing or just did an hour ago. This will aid your doctor too. These can be caused from so many things as I mentioned before including a hormonal relationship.

I had scary heart palpitations for years before starting on AD's. But when the SSRI's brought my anxiety under control, my palpitations decreased.
