Have anyone here gotten bipolar or bipolar-like symptoms after sustained use of an SSRI, and had these symptoms resolve after stopping the SSRI?
Anyone actually dealt with bipolar I or bipolar II without psychopharmaceutical agents?

I can't join the club! The last one I tried (Celexa) didn't even require prolonged use. I've been bipolar withouth meds for yesrs (prior to my diagnosis)...not good though...I was pretty out of control all those years. I don't think I could manage it without medication.Karen

First time on zoloft, I had a manic response. Second and third time around, it just didn't work at all.

OHH Yeah, the smallest amount of a SSRI will send me hypomanic, followed by a giant depression.

Both Strattera and Prozac sent me into a hypomanic state almost immediately. I have since lowered the dose of prozac to a measly 10 mg and am feeling much better.

All antidepressants tried (many TCA's, all SSRI's, 2 MAOI's, Wellbutrin, Effexor, Serzone, Trazodone, others) make me hypomanic. The level of mania keeps increasing 'til I stop the AD.
Some induce the hypomania/mania faster than others, some at lower or higher dose (relative to standard dose for that particular AD). All induce it eventually regardless of dose.

SSRIs that I've tried send my moods all over the place. This does not improve with time and seems to occur with even the smallest dosages. My pdoc doesn't think this is bipolar disorder, just a bad reaction to SSRIs. He recommends that I avoid them, since (in his and my opinion) they're great for some people and ineffective to awful for others.

Celexa left me hypomania for one year. Than I had a major depression the last 6 months. I feel fine now on Lamictal.
