To Sad Panda: A Remeron Question

Posted by BRC on May 8, 2004, at 14:51:57

Hi, I have been reading some of the threads and it appears that you have alot of knowledge of the med Remeron. I currently take 45mg of Remeron and it is not producing the same effects it used to. My question is there any benefit to be gained to increase Remeron beyond 45mg. I wil see my pdoc next week and want to address this issue with him. I take the Sol-tab forms and they have just become available in generic and my insurance will only pay for generic. So, I was also wondering if changing from the brand name Remeron to generic would have any effect. Thanks in advance for any info.

You might try augmenting Remeron with Wellbutrin.

Hi BRC,

The more Remeron you take, the more it becomes stimulating. What are your symptoms & are you taking anything else with it?

Cheers,
Panda.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I also take 20mg of Lexapro and 2mg of Klonopin. The Remeron use to help with my anxiety and sleep disturbances due to anxiety (it would produce a slight sedating effect allowing my body to physically relax--my anxiety produces a lot of physical symptoms such as tingling sensations, headaches, muscle tension-----and the remeron use to reduce these symptoms. If I'm not mistaken I read somewhere that Remeron worked at lower doses on the Histimine system in the brain i.e. causing sleepiness. But If you increase if you increase Remeron does it help with alleviating depression and anxiety? Or will it just increase anxiety (the stimulating effect you mentioned). Or would it be better to up the SSRI to help with the depression?-----By the way I am sorry for all of the questions--just want to get the most out of my pdoc visit Tuesday (at $150.00 a visit on my budget everything counts)==Thanks in advance :)

Hi BRC,

Don't apoligize for asking questions, as answering questions is what we like to do. :) My preference would be to increase the Lexapro dosage & think of it as the main AD, reduce Remeron & think of it as a sleep aid & SSRI side effect reducer. I feel that 30mg should be the maximum dosage of Remeron when combined as going to 45 or 60mg makes is less effective as a sleep aid. If Lexapro doesn't help after 4 weeks at a higher dosage, consider changing it to another SSRI or Effexor.

Cheers,
Panda.
