I was curious about how it's going for you. I have decided that in about 5-7 days or so I am going to try it.

It is beginning to work. I don't want to make too much of a big deal about it yet, though. I have been disappointed too many times in the past. Too frequently has a drug produced an improvement early in treatment, only to poop-out within a matter of days (three usually). However, I'm on my fourth day, so I can't help but to be optimistic. How are things with you?

After five or so good days, I'm in scorching, viscious, nightmarish, gut-wrenching agony. My brain is torturing me to death. And my internet service is giving me no end of trouble and sometimes I can't open posts or various web sites.
I'm going to start my memantine trial tomorrow. What dose have you tried? I'm not sure how much to start with and my pdoc doesn't have much experience with it yet.

Hi Emme.

I know it is still early, and I haven't reached the target dosage of 20mg yet, but I am apprehensive that my response might already be plateauing. I would be happier if I felt noticeably better today than I did a few days ago. It would be nice if a trend towards greater improvement were obvious. Again, it is far too early to pass judgment, but memantine still has a lot left to prove in my case.
I wish you luck with memantine. Didn't you try it for a few days a while ago? What happened?

The starter pack for memantine sets up for an initial dosage of 5mg and increases by 5mg every week up to 20mg. Of course, this is the indication for Alzheimer's, not for affective disorders.
Good luck. If your experience is anything like mine, you might see some improvement as early as day 2. I'm not sure whether this a good thing or a bad thing. I sometimes think that the more gradual responses last the longest.

Hi All.
Well, it seems that I am to be disappointed once again. At the moment, I feel no better than I did prior to starting memantine. It just stopped working, at least for now. I have not been on it three weeks yet, so I guess it is premature to pass judgment. However, my history is littered with failed drug trials in which I responded early in treatment only to watch the response decay within a matter of days. I can't help but to think that my treatment with memantine is following the same pattern.
Crap.
I'll keep hoping, I guess. What else can I do? Sorry to disappoint you folks.

It's not. I haven't experienced anything encouraging for about a week and a half. I continue to deteriorate. I'm really not sure how I'm going to deal with all of this. I thought I had the monster whipped.
