4+ Yrs On Eff XR-Suddenly Having Old Feelings

Posted by Doxie Mom on May 1, 2004, at 10:52:57

I have suffered with major depression since my teen years. I have been on and off of many different meds over the years. I have most recently been taking Effexor XR for 4+ years. It took a few months before I actually felt "normal" again but the past 3+ years have been wonderful! I take my medicine religously every morning. However, about a week ago, I "think" I might have forgotten to take it one day. I couldn't remember so I just went on with my regular schedule. About 3 days ago, I started having mild old feelings of anxiety, sick stomach, headache, urge to cry... Hasn't gone away yet. I've only ever taken 75mg. of Effexor XR. Is it possible that you can become "immune" to this med over long term use? Is it possible to have these feelings if I missed one dose a week ago? HELP???

It is possible that all you need is a dosage adjustment. The things you describe can certainly be symptoms of the return of depression. 75mg is a rather low dosage. Effexor is often more effective at dosages of 150-300mg. Best to talk to your doctor. Perhaps there is another explanation.

Good luck.

Thanks Scott. I wondered that myself. It's just odd that 75mg has worked so well for so long and now all the sudden...???? If it doesn't get better, I will be seeing the doc! Thanks again!!! Support is unbelievably helpful with this illness.
