If you have been on topomax, please let me know about your experience. I am on 18 mg for a tremor. Doesn't seem to be helping the tremor yet. It's seems to really just make everything taste bad and I am nauseated. Is this permenant?

I read so much awful stuff about Topamax I was really reluctant to try it, but I was having so many headaches and the Maxalt was effective but expensive, and one tends to rebound from it. The first few days I felt a little sick to my stomach and had some heartburn but I have nothing but good things to say about it since. I didn't know it was also used as a mood stabilizer as well as an anticonvulsant, and I've been feeling really active and great, cleaning out closets, shopping, writing letters, doing things I've been putting off for years--not at all manic, just active and involved. I'm also menopausal and the sweats have stopped. My headaches are gone which is unbelieveable to me after thirty-three years--I just found out last year I had migraines--I thought I was a whiny-baby-headache-girl because I never took to my bed and hardly ever got sick to my stomach--but the BEST news is that in five weeks my appetite has returned to normal after ten years of SSRI induced overeating during which I've gone from120 to 180--and I've lost 9 pounds with no effort whatsoever--in fact, last night I asked my husband to bring me home something decadant because I think I'm losing weight too fast! I ramped up to 100 mg over a month. Good luck to you with your tremor.

there are tons of old threads with great info on topamax, so i'd do a search for more specific help as relates to taking it for a tremor. i can say that the bad tastes, nausea, etc., went away after awhile. the key was just to titrate s-l-o-w-l-y. i'm currently at 200mg for BPII. like carole, i have also lost some weight, but not "too much" (dang it!) and feel more motivated.
it's not for everyone. i won't pretend that i didn't have an absolute bear of a time getting adjusted to it. one thing that was unexpected was that i became unable to tolerate alcohol. now it makes me exceedingly ill to drink, but i consider that a positive side effect.
good luck!
