> thanksIf you will be renting a car at destination, Valium could be a problem if you are not experienced with the drug. I would not do it unless you know how you react to Valium. Also, you'd be better off with 1mg Xanax an hour before the flight and have your Mum hold an additional 1mg tablet of Xanax for use in case of an attack (in the Rx bottle, of course). Works much faster and clears faster.

First of all, a 2 1/2 hour flight is not going to cause DVT. That's a problem if you're off your feet for weeks and months, not hours. Set your mind at ease over that one.
As for the flight, I got that way before a 21 hour flight! I was terrified that I'd be so freaked out, I could never come home again! You know what? It was OK. Yes, I took valium, yes, it helped. You know what, though, the anxiety before hand was way worse than the flight itself. Talk to your doctor about the best anxiety drug for a plane trip, and relax.
Last international trip I took, I was told that I could take enough meds for my time there. Take what you need, plus a couple of extra days worth, and you should be fine.
By the way, I'm sorry you're not feeling excited about your trip -- but it sure sounds wonderful to me.

As far as anxiety relief goes with benzos, you might find differnces between their eficacies. I have found klonopin to be totaly different than valium (both good-k better). My anxiety was eventually found to come from BP II. Lithium and high dose neurontin made things amazingly better.

I'm not sure where you're getting your information about benzodiazepines crazychickuk. Alprazolam (Xanax) is a Schedule 4/Class C drug in the U.K. making it available by prescription, and you can take as much diazepam (Valium) as you want as long as you have a prescription to buy it. Xanax is better for panic attacks and Valium is better for muscle spasms and has a longer half life.
