Do mood stabilizers help major depression? I have just recently been put on Topomax for essential tremor. I was wondering if it would help my major depression as well. I am not bipolar. I have PTSD and take Lexapro for the depression.

I've read that Topomax alone might not do much for depression. I'm not sure what others have experienced re: monotherapy. It might assist with another anticonvulsant.
From what I understand, the anticonvulsant Lamictal and mood stabilizer Lithium are the two that can help with depression (have been through trials to test the fact.) The others are debatable.
